Default Need Advice on a Gravitar cabinet

    Hi all,

I recently was given an Original Gravitar cabinet by a co worker. I planned on making it a MAME cab, but once I saw it I knew it was too nice to gut and destroy, so I am left with a non-working Gravitar cabinet at the moment.
From what I was told by the person who gave it to me, it needs a deflector board.?? Anyone know what that is?? Where I could find one? Or how much they cost? The board that is supposely bad is no longer in the cabinet, it wasn't there when I went to pick it up. So I need one regardless if it's the problem or not. Any ideas?

Thanks all of all your help and advice.

I am really very unfamiliar with Gravitar (having never worked on one, much less even seen the cabinet), but I am guessing maybe what you need is a "deflection board"? I would speculate that that if that's the case, you have an issue with your monitor. IF (and I say again, *IF*) that's the problem, chances are the rest of the game works ok. I don't know what (if any) parts are available for that cab., you're probably looking at finding a random stash of old Gravitar parts in somebody's warehouse somewhere, maybe someone else can be of more assistance?

    Default hmmmm...

I probably do not know what I am talking about, but would it not be possible to simply rewire the cabinet but leave everything else intact. Should be plenty of room for a PC in there?

If you can use original arcade controls and an orginal monitor with MAME than it should be sorta of possible?

It would be possible, I believe, but Gravitar is a Vector game.. I'm not too totally sure everything on the Vector stuff, but I know it won't work with anything but Vector games.

I don't want to MAME it at this point.. I would like to fix it and play it..

Where can I find a Deflection board? Any ideas? I believe it has the Weels Gardner xy monitor.

if you don't see it on the parts webpage, call them and ask them. They usually have whatever you need.

I'm another "don't MAME it" person. Gravitar is pretty hard to find.

This should answer all of your questions on repairing that monitor: http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/tech/6100_faq.pdf . The most common problem is probably the frame mounted deflection transistors failing. They're easy to test and replace. I'd recommend buying one of the repair kits from Bob Roberts: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/caps.html ... I believe K6100 19" color X-Y $14.00 is a cap kit (replacement capacitors) plus the deflection transistors. You could get one of the deluxe kits if you wanted to really overhaul everything, and likely fix it in the process. Overall, the K6100 isn't a bad vector monitor to repair.
