    Default 360 hurting electrical bill?

Im wondering if anybodys bills are nasty because of playing the console a lot, or if it really even makes a difference. Im moving out with a buddy of mine and we both have 360's, we play whenever we have a chance, 3-4 hours a day, everyday. Am i gonna find out playing this console is gonna hurt the electric bill or is it such a small amount it even wont matter..

3-4hrs a day with 2? Doesn't sound horrible at all, but what you should worry about are the TVs. Are they beasts?

I think the central air conditioning is hurting my bill this summer a little more than the 360.

Yeah....window unit is likely to hurt my bill moreso than my PC, Wii, PS2 on standby, and my TV together...hehe. Oh..yeah..and that really energy efficient 300w Onkyo receiver from 1980 that I use for sound.

If you can afford that many nice TVs, why the hell are you worried about your power bill? Stop being an idiot.

They were probably purchased on credit.

Xbox 360 uses 160 to 200 watts of electricity. According to how much processing power it uses for a task the price of playing the system itself is about 1 to 2 cents an hour or whatever your kilowatt hour price is for using electricity in your area.

BTW, to convert to kilowatt hours multiply your watts by .001. Then, find the price of kilowatt hours for your area and multiply that by whatever kwh your appliance uses.

If you want to save money just get those energy saver light bulbs they sell now. That'll more than make up for the electricity your Xbox 360 uses and they work a lot better than they used to.

Air conditioning and hot water heaters are the biggest consumers of energy. Followed by the fridge and I'd say the oven or clothes dryers would follow.

After seeing my gas heating bills the last two winters, there is no bill that surprises me any more, lol. Being a single male home owner in my late 20's, I consider my gaming related electricity use as a necessary evil.

Figured you'd have flat panels. The biggest one you have is about 200 watts, the rest are all lower, so your XBOX 360 is about the same power. Expect about $0.04/hr or around there for both up and running.

    The funny thing:
"Flat-panel LCD screen displays have a lifespan approaching 60,000 hours"
So if you bought the TV for $2500 then it cost you $0.0417/hr to watch it.

Not to completely derail the everloving shit out of the thread, but ...

Speaking of energy saving light bulbs, does anyone have a good source for some LED bulbs? I'd love to swap out the lights in the living room and main hallway (the lights most commonly turned on) with some LED bulbs. Hell, I probably wouldn't even bother turning them off before I went to bed.

We're looking at replacing all of the windows in the house and perhaps getting the doors looked at to make the house a bit more energy efficient too, because the garage door is a leaky bitch and the sliding back door is a coat hanger away from being aborted right off the track.

Dont worry about the 360. Watch out for the AC and heating. My first apartment had ELECTRIC heat...After the first month I just started freezing and sleeping in a sleeping bag with a blanket over top of me as well.

Anyone know what the best air conditioner is? I've heard from carpenters that Trane is the best one as far as reliability. However, Carrier is the one that gets advertised as the most fuel efficient with the best SEER rating.

If this thread were on the more low-brow message boards online, you could expect a post or two saying, "I'm tired of my parents crampin' my style sayin' I gotta turn off the 360 and not leave it on all day because it uses too much electricity!!!! "

Ruud, Trane, and Carrier are the three best AC brands.
