    Default Best non-Nintendo handheld

I'm considering starting another handheld collection. Right now I own a Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP; non-Nintendo handhelds I have are the Game Gear and the Nomad.

Now that I'm only 28 games away from a complete Genesis collection. I have been buying up games for other systems. And Im considering starting a handheld collection, and I've thought about collecting for a few. Anyway I just wanted to know what everyones favorite was and why.

Also isnt there a handheld of the Turbografx-16?

Would have to be the PCE GT. You just can't beat the massive library and it has the non-edited Splatterhouse, for ya.

Normally I'd say the Game Gear, but I voted for the Lynx since it's (obviously) my favorite on the poll.

The reason I didnt put the Sega Game Gear in the poll is like I said in the topic post. I want to start another collection, within my collection, by collecting for another hand-held console. And I already have a Game Gear. So I didnt put it in the poll since I already have one, and collect for it.

Oh, definitely the Neo Pocket. Not even a split second of hesitation. Even if all the other systems not on the list were added (there's lots like the TurboExpress, WonderSwan, GP32, etc.), it'd still be the Neo Pocket over all of them.

Even among Nintendo's systems, I really think the GBA is the only one I'd vote above the Neo Pocket. The Gameboy and now DS have huge libraries, so there's bound to be some good games in there, but the Neo Pocket with it's tiny little library has so many amazing high quality games that I just have to respect it.

Plus, it is bar-none the best *DESIGNED* handheld ever, no question about that.

I know that, that's why I voted for the Lynx.

NeoGeo Pocket Color, no contest really.

Although the GT/Express does play the same Hu Cards as the home machine, which means it has a huge library of games. If you're looking for a semi-portable PC Engine though, go for the ultimate variation that is the PCE LT. You'll need to be near a power socket when you want to play it (no battery option), but there's the potential of sneaking a full Super CD Rom2 system into your office in your briefcase.... ;P

I have a soft-spot for the Game Gear too.

I was leaning toward the purchase of the Neo Geo Pocket because I thought that would be a cool handheld to have and collect for. Plus I figured with only 32 (correct me if I'm wrong) games I could probably find em all in a year or so. Even quicker if I just use Ebay.

I dont know why, I just want to have a complete collection. I think its because I've been collecting between five and six years. Now finally I only need 28 Sega Genesis games to have a complete collection, so I think I'm just geting anxious, and what to say I have a complete SOMETHING!

FAIL. If you didn't put the Game Gear in there because you already own one, you should have made a thread titled "what Non-Nintendo handheld should I get next?"

I didnt think, or consider the N-Gage. I dont know a whole lot about it, I've always been given the impression that it wasnt very impressive.

    Anyone dig the N-Gage?

Out of all listed, the N-Gage is the best non listed handheld! Yep, it is good..despite the bad press.

On an off note, how come there are so many polls here lately?

The correct answer is Neo Geo Pocket Color. All other answers are null and void. :P

I'm just considering normal handhelds, though, not ones designed to be portable home consoles. After NGPC, I'd probably go with the WonderSwan.

For non-Nintendo handhelds, I've only played the Game Gear (which isn't in the poll) and the Game.Com

Game.Com has a good built-in version of Solitaire, albeit black and white. I also enjoy the Williams Arcade Classics cart a little and Wheel of Fortune is fairly good. Otherwise, I think the games for it are garbage.

Game Gear has a decent sized library, so even though there are a pile of bad games, you should be able to find some you like. What games do you already own for it?

If it were me, I'd get the Atari Lynx next. Of course this is coming from someone who hasn't played it before but I've never been excited about getting a Neo Geo Pocket Color (which I haven't played either).

One of these days, I'll post a WTB thread on the forum and get both the Lynx and NGPC. As for the other non-Nintendo handheld systems, I don't really care.

neo geo pocket color is easily the best. The games are mostly quality and play very well (especially fighters its like the only handheld that plays fighters well) also battery life is tottally kick ass! I had a complete collection but have been selling it off still have some stuff left though if your interested
