Default Can you resurface a Disk Doctored PS1 disc?

    ... with good results?

I picked up Legend of Legaia at a pawn shop, but the disc has the characteristic disc doctored look. I surface scanned the disc w/ Nero, and it comes back 100% good, so I take that as a good indication that it will play all the way through. Don't want to ruin it w/ a resurfacing if that is likely, but I sure would like it to look nicer. Am I just being silly? I now have two copies, so would have to decide which to sell/trade...

I had a bunch of disc-doctored discs, some for Playstation and one for Sega CD, that I got resurfaced at GameCrazy and they all worked fine afterwards. So I think you should be OK.

I believe you can make it look 'brand new', but it's going to take the usage of one of those $1,000 re-surfacing machines, as well as someone who knows how to properly use it.

I remember someone being able to totally re-surface a game that I had bought from them and they made it look like it was just opened. The only problem that they said might happen is that since PS1 games are on black colored CDs, there's more of a chance that the disc might warp while being spun at the high RPM the machine will have to spin and cut the surface of the disc. Plus, the buffing procedure might warp it as well, but since I've never used this type of resurfacing machine, I wouldn't know. I just believed what the guy said, especially since he did a wonderful job re-surfacing the scratched disc I brought back to him.

I'd only resurface the disc if it's actually giving you serious issues while playing it, otherwise, just leave it well enough alone. Resurfacing is always a risk, and does cut the lifespan of the disc since you're basically buffing off a whole layer of the plastic. Best to only do it to games that don't work otherwise, and can't be easily replaced.

I would say that you should resurface the doctored one then sell it, but the cost of resurfacing would cut into the already low value of Legend of Legaia (I just sold one two weeks ago).

Thanks for the replies. I think it costs about 2 bucks to resurface a disc over at the game crazy, so I might go ahead. I mostly feel like I shouldn't sell a disc that looks as bad as this, and I'd be better off just saying that it has been resurfaced and looks/plays great.

    thanks again.
