It's crazy how Wii Play is still selling so well so long after it's been released. I know why it's still selling, but still. Just shows that people like bundles.

According to the article IGN posted last night, number 11 is Guitar Hero III for Wii with a little over 500,000 units sold.

This also brings Super Mario Galaxy's total to roughly 3.5 million worldwide so far.

    Here are the Canadian charts:

    http://canadianpress.google.com/arti...ZMoV3Gms2ZAtLw

Apparently video game sales were up an astonishing 56% last year.

They don't give any sales figures, but the top selling games for the year were:

    1) Wii Play (Wii)
    2) Halo 3 (Xbox 360)
    3) Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
    4) Pokemon Diamond (DS)
    5) Guitar Hero 3 (PS2)
    6) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360)
    7) New Super Mario Bros (DS)
    8) Guitar Hero 2 (Xbox 360)
    9) Mario Party 8 (Wii)
    10) Brain Age 2 (DS)

Well, it's only $10 more than buying just the controller, and it comes with software (granted, there are only a few decent selections on that software, it's still software nonetheless).

I cant believe how well the playstation 2 is still selling. That number of 41 million sold is astronomical.

    The numbers actually suprised me.

The PS2 is still rocking. 41 mil is a ton of systems. One of my favorite
The 360 had a solid showing. Now about that price drop....
The Wii is continuing to blast off. I predict that this console is only going in one direction...off the shelves.

The PS3 is still in third by a long shot. While I think it is still an OK system Sony better do something this year or they might have some trouble getting future people making games for their system. Gosh they have botched the dam thing.

The PS3 has been in last place every month since it released in November 2006. I think it's time they do something different.

    Sales figures:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080119...POYaht0n8E1vAI

    $17.9 billion, that's absolutely insane.

I think the last few years have been around the $10 - $12 billion mark.

The Wii reached 20.13 million units sold worldwide at the end of December 2007.

    http://wii.ign.com/articles/847/847394p1.html

    Also:

December 2007 software-to-hardware ratio data (U.S., NPD Group):

    Wii: 8.11 to 1
    Xbox 360: 7.76 to 1
    PlayStation 3: 5.04 to 1

Players bought eight games for every Wii sold in December 2007. That ratio is higher than the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

    Life-to-date software-to-hardware ratio data (U.S., NPD Group):

People keep talking about how bad Sony is doing, but seeing the numbers for the PS2 and PSP, makes me think that they really can afford to wait out the bad start of the PS3. I mean only a couple hundred thousand more Wii's were sold than PS2, and people claim they still cannot find them in the wild.

On a side note, I had a little extra money and was going to pick up a Wii after xmas because my nephew got one and he wanted to me to get one so we could "share" games. Well I found them in the first 2 stores I went to. Both had over 5 units both told me I had to buy bundles to get them. As long as they keep pulling this crap, I can go without for now. I feel bad for nintendo because I am sure they would love to sell me a unit for 250.

In 2007, the Wii outsold the PlayStation 2 by 2.32 million in the U.S. alone. In fact, the Wii sold just about the same as the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 3 combined.

Two Nintendo consoles (the DS and the Wii) outsold three Sony consoles (the PSP, the PlayStation 2, and the PlayStation 3) in the U.S.: 14.79 million vs. 10.35 million. True, Sony isn't doing horribly overall (the PlayStation 3 is doing horribly though), but considering how much it dominated the last two generations of home consoles, it's surprising to see it in last place now.

    U.S. hardware totals for 2007:

    DS: 8.50 million
    Wii: 6.29 million
    Xbox 360: 4.62 million
    PS2: 3.97 million
    PSP: 3.82 million
    PS3: 2.56 million

I hate bundles and I hated selling them when I worked retail several years ago.

I will always continue to believe that simply shutting down game sales on the previous gen system is not the way to go. Especially when there isn't an enormous leap in technology. I have an XBox still, and you mean to tell me they can't tone down the graphics and release PGR 3 or Halo 3 on the old Xbox?

According to NPD Group's U.S. sales data (January 2008):

    software:

    Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360) - 328,000
    Wii Play (Wii) - 298,000
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Wii) - 240,000
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - 172,000
    Rock Band (Xbox 360) - 171,000
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360) - 167,000
    Burnout Paradise () - 144,000
    Call of Duty 4 (PlayStation 3) - 139,000
Mario Party DS (DS) - 138,000
    Mario & Sonic at the Olympics () - 133,000

"Guitar Hero III for Wii has sold nearly 1.5 million copies since it debuted in November 2007, despite having a major sound bug. Activision has recently started sending out replacement copies of the game to consumers who asked for them.

We're saddened to report that since their simultaneous release in August 2007, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has sold 626,000 copies and Carnival Games 655,000 copies.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles has topped the 300,000 mark in sales domestically.

Wii Play has amassed 4.4 million in sales since its release"

    hardware:

    Wii nunchuck - 375,000
    Nintendo Wii - 274,000
    Sony PlayStation 3 - 270,000
    Sony PlayStation 2 - 265,000
    Nintendo DS - 252,000
    Sony PSP - 230,000
    Microsoft Xbox 360 - 229,000

    Very close month!

"Despite severe hardware shortages – supply was so limited, in fact, that Nintendo was forced to hand out vouchers to consumers interested in Wii – approximately 274,000 gamers picked up the console in January."

I wonder how many vouchers were given out.

Those same people were likely quick to point out that while the previous Nintendo consoles seemed to be doing poorly, Nintendo was doing just fine thanks to it's GBA/DS line of products.

The lesson, as always: people ignore what they want when they want to say something negative about publisher Y.

    In a word, no.

The 360 had an alarming stock shortage for January. People that wanted to buy a 360 simple couldn't find one after Christmas. This was even discussed here at DP.

Is that the first time the PS3 has outsold the PS2?

I wonder if the shortage was due to the number of replacement units needed for RRoD returns. Or is Microsoft taking a page out of Nintendo's Wii marketing playbook...
