Default Wonder Project J2: Rare gem of a N64 jrpg

Thanks to Aussie2B pimping this title out in another thread I decided to give it a shot, with the translation patch once i found my N64 emulator. I was surprised by the high quality of this title by Enix. I'm playing it now, still near the beginning and getting used to everything but it's one of those off-the-track rpgs like Harvest moon or Animal Crossing that makes niche titles gems.

Now if i can just get Josette to stop eating books...

Glad to hear you're giving it a try and enjoying it. You should try the original on Super Famicom as well, although it's not quite as good, in my opinion. Oh, and in that one you can smack Pino over the head with a mallet when he's eating something he shouldn't. :P Granted, it's a little more crucial in that game when he might try to eat the cat, hehe.

The only thing holding me back from giving this a shot is that I'm waiting for PJ64 v1.7 to officially be released (which is a bit of a ways away). At least, it's the excuse I use to keep from having to mess around with Nemu64 and focus on my current crop of games, anyway

I couldn't figure out how to setup Nemu64 with my USB Gamepad... which really sucks. I really want to play this game (and have since the patch was released) I absolutely loved the first one, but I just can't get used to the controls on the keyboard. I dunno... maybe I'm retarded. :P

Well, I definitely wouldn't want to play on a keyboard. It's not exactly a game with demanding controls, but it does feel great with a N64 controller. The Z-trigger just matches so well with the game; I almost wish I could play the original with it.

Thanks, Kaine. If you need any more help, just let me know, and I'll try to dredge up my memory of the finer points of the gameplay.

Project 64's (1.6) setup isn't bad at all actually.

Any other ideas about that issue I pm'ed you about earlier? Also even though I taught J how to use the mop and clean herself (damn I feel dirty playing this sometimes), I can still get achievement 3 after I forcefeed her bad movies right?

Someone finally did do a patch for this? Holy shit I wanted that since the day Nintendo Power taunted me about never getting to play it.

Nah, I unfortunately don't have any other ideas. What areas exactly is the game not letting you enter according to the map?

    http://membres.lycos.fr/wonderproject/faq/map.jpg

I would get achievement 6 first and then Gante will let you enter the secret forest. I can't remember if you can enter the Siliconian Airforce areas right from the beginning, but at the very least you should be able to go to the normal Blueland forest area. I'm really leaning towards your problem being emulator related.

As for achievement 3, you don't have to worry about messing up any achievements as they'll always still be available no matter what you do. Is there a movie somehow related to cleaning? I'd just recommend having Josette watch every movie once at the beginning of the game. It'll save you some trouble later on, although you will have to watch one or two over again later on (understanding love usually takes at least a couple watchings of the Romeo & Juliet rip-off). Anyway, how far around are you into the cleaning achievements? I'm guessing she showered but hated it? Have you messed around with the washing machine yet? It's usually a combination of using the sink, shower, and washing machine at that point, until she asks if water makes things clean. Then have her wash her face, she'll understand finally, and she'll want to use the mop.

18-20 on the map. When I play later I'll try to do achievement 6.

For cleaning, it took about 5-6 minutes for her to stop making me dizzy with her own spinning and figured out that water = clean, so I gave her some RGB. But she hasn't asked about the mop. maybe I'll try that one first and go carry a tray off the floor a few times.

Is there some trigger message she gives after seeing 5-6 movies, or just go? Also, how many times do I have do do Gante's before getting paid (I read the pilot's manual already).

Well I didn't get too far before I noticed it was glitchy and switched emulators. During the "video" sequence when Geppetto's on his death bed there were boxes around Jossete's mouth and his mouth, and their eyes. Basically anywhere they would line up a moving sprite over the still image. Nothing that would prevent you from continuing te game. But annoying to look at.

Ok, I have Rice's plugin set for pj64 and Nemu and the game looks better! I also discovered that issue I had with not being able to get to areas 18-20 is in Nemu also, so maybe it is something with the game? and how the heck do I get Nemu to make the save file for J2?!

I've played the first game, it's fun but extremely frustrating.

It's like as soon as you teach the kid something, then you need to teach him the opposite.

I recently (a few months ago) picked up this game complete off of Ebay. I have yet to play it as I still need to mod my N64. It's cool to see this game get some attention again.

Additionally, I just picked up this book. Anyone have a copy?
