Konami sucks.
The latest EGM shows pictures of it, and assuming that they are not fake, then I officially hate Konami.

Ummm, in case you didn't notice, it's a new century. Just because it's 3D doesn't mean it will suck. Yes, the N64 versions sucked, but what if they do it so it plays like Devil May Cry? Companies are learning fromt heir past mistakes at game conversions. Looks at all the games that made it into 3D and are still good like Shinobi, Rygar, Metroid, Zelda, Etc... Let's at least get some hands-on with it before we hate Konami.
Agreed. If judged all games on graphics, I wouldn't own half the games I do.Originally Posted by Hamsnibit
not all 3D games suck, but i stand behind IntvGene on this one, Konami BLOWS. Sure it may turn out to be the greatest game ever, but still, would like to have seen 2-D. Im old school, especially as far as my all time fave series Castlevania goes, so what can I say? Of course ill buy it and play it no matter what, but still, Konami, shame shame shame

What's the big deal? Do people around here fear change that much?Konami BLOWS
I don't have any modern systems, but THAT LOOKS AWESOME. Why not update Castlevania? People couldn't throw enough shit at Zelda Windwalker BEFORE it was released, and now look.
THERE ARE UPWARDS OF A DOZEN PAST 2-D CASTLEVANIA GAMES. Soon to be 3!! THREE!!! on GBA. By now they'd just be repeating themselves.
Up until very recently I scorned all that is 3-D. Until I played Metroid Prime and Zelda WW. Sometimes updating something IS NOT A BAD THING!
By the way, for which consoles is this game? All?
Play the GBA then if you don't like 3D games.
There are a lot of good 3D games out there not all of them suck.
Kinda reminds me of the lost DC Castlevania game. Neato!
After playing Zelda: OoT I've lost my fear of 3D games.
Tempest
like i said, it may very well turn out to be the best game ever! It does look cool, I admit. But there last track record going 3D with the N64 versions sucked royal ass, and the 2 GBA version blew them away, in my opinion. Nothing at all wrong with change, but some people, like myself just prefer old school style. Which is excatly why my ps2 sits covered in dust, and my NES is immaculate. Maybe this game can change that..... =)

All 2-D Castlevania's are crittically acclaimed and sell a ton of copies. The 3-D Castlevania went bottoms up fast and sucked. I don't have anything against 3-D when its done right, but based on previous experience I have little faith in this one, but i guess we shall see.
I am in fact the guy that made the Raisins prototype worth thousands less by dumping it. "D'oh!!"
I have faith in Capcom, I think they can pull it off, granted, the N64 versions blew chunks, but we will just have to wait and see about this one. I really think It will be something special, judging by the screens. (It kind of looks Devil May Cryish)

Heh. Why not? It would require more imagination on the user's part. Like a Choose Your Own Adventure books.
Anyway, Castlevania 64 was ONE DAMN GAME. Jeez.
3-D games are what sell these days.
I agree though, Konami should DIE for trying to reach each next-gen system's core audience (New School) and actually make money... fucking cocksuckers.
I think as time goes by 3-d games are getting better. I remember when they first started they where really hard to get used to in some cases, well for me atleast. Alot of them had bad camera angles and the game play was far from being mastered by any means. But as i am getting used to them and comfortable with them as i am with the 2-d games they are getting alot better imo. I for one welcome the change and am looking forward to this game.
Sure it's a new century but just because 3D is available doesn't mean that EVERYTHING needs to be in 3D. Should every new game be Cell Shaded as well since Cell Shading is a somewhat new technology? The way I look at it is if it isn't broke then don't try to fix it.Originally Posted by Hamsnibit
Actually, they released a second N64 game a while later. It was very much like the first, and while some things were improved, it seems that many people were not impressed by the fact that so much was left the same.Originally Posted by Eternal Champion

Seriously tho....what CAN they do to make it good? Especially for those of us who REALLY REALLY don't want a build up and explore game and just want a classic platformer. I hate to pass judgement early, but I have serios misgivings, especially since it's coming for PS2. Bleah.
scooterb: "I once shot a man in Catan, just to watch him die."
A classic platformer? In my mind, that would be going back to everything that was every wrong with the castlevania series. Let's take a look at my favorite cv games.....
Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest
Castlevania: SOTN
Castlevania: COTM
Yep, they're all build up and explore games, even though they are 2D.
In my opinion, the ones that were straight action games never had a good enough control scheme to be a contender in that category. The belmonts jumped to stiffly, and walked to slowly.
i can help it, im partial to the old school method. Nothing wrong with 3D stuff by no means, there are some great games, and they sure have come along way since the 2 Castlevania 64 games, but once you get this far along in a series, im a believer that the big core of the audience are the die hard fans of the series (like me), and mainly because of how a game sticks to its roots. (example of that would be all the Mega Man games) In other words, those who loved Symphony of the Night, praised Circle of the Moon and HOD, and went out and bought them immediatley. At the same time we spit on Castlevania 64, so were deathly afraid of its next POSSIBLE incarnation. Basically, if it aint broke, leave it the hell alone before you do break it.

I'm with brandver and Gene.
I brought this up about a month ago when they anounced the new castlevania (Before they announced the 3D part)
I would have thought if ANYONE would want to keep some GOOD 2-D games around it would be the people on this board, I guess not.
Do you know how GOOD a 2-D Castlevania would look on a currst gen console? Sigh
