Default What I want to see in a video game book.

I want a coffee table-sized book with at least a half-page review of ever game ever made for the system with color screen shots of each game included. So take the NES. There were what, 810 games released for the NES? So put two games on each page and add a few sections of hardware, peripherals, and history, and you've got a nice 250 page book. Make it hardcover and oversized, and sell it for $50. Call it The Complete Encyclopedia of the Nintendo Entertainment System or something like that.

That's what I want to see in a video game book.

Sounds like a job for somebody with a full collection! Seriously, I'd drop good money for a book like that.

That would be so cool... You could make it a series! Do a book on the Genesis next, then the SNES, and then bind up the Jaguar, the Lynx, and 7800 in one slim volume... Do the Saturn and Dreamcast together, the N64 and Game Cube together, and finish off with an 11 volume encyclopedia edition on the Playstation and PS2!

fwiw, my favorite coffee table book on video games to date is Demaria & Wilson's High Score!...

Pretty much what I wanna see in a gaming book as well. Back in my Sega Saturn heyday, I had wild dreams of making reviews for every game in my collection and compiling it in a binder. No publication, just thought how damn cool it would be to have something tangible, and be able to show guests as a quick reference guide for which games to potentially play.

Never did it though. Closest I'm ever going to get to that is with my website RVGFANATIC, where my goal is to review as many SNES games as I can, in addition to transferring my old Saturn material. Just one man's takes on his SNES experiences from 1991 to 2008.

Seems like many people have been feeling very "review-y" in recent times, be it online or wanting to see something similar in a comprehensive book. It's interesting how these movements, so to speak, comes and goes. Last year was pretty quiet. This year it seems have exploded into new heights of popularity.

Personally, I'd like to see a book about comparing the differences between U.S. and non-US versions of games, as well as some imports that never saw the light of day in the US. I'd buy that book.

But I'd buy the NES encyclopedia too.
