Default Neo Geo MVS High Scores

Just wanted to know how high scores are saved on an MVS, and if I swap games in and out will it remember my previous high scores? Or will it reset them every time I take the game out?

Also, do you have any high scores you're particularly proud of?

That's a good question, actually. I should check... but I'm sure you'll get an answer before then.

    I don't think it saves.

It doesn't save. I don't think it saves your high scores to the memory card even?

It uses a battery on the MVS board to save them. I think the MVS will store the scores from about the last 10 games played.

Is it stored in the cartridge? I changed the battery on my MVS and my high scores were still there. (Until I pressed the wrong button and deleted them like a dumbass) Or maybe the RAM is kept warm by a capacitor while the battery is out?

Nothing is stored in the cartridges. Like you said, the scores are probably kept alive for a certain amount of time by capacitors while the battery was being swapped. IIRC, it works the same way when replacing CPS2 batteries - if the battery suicides, then the board is gone, but you can quickly swap out the battery and with a fresh one, and be fine.
