Default Is Soul Calibur (XBLA) worth the $10 if you already own Soul Calibur (DC)?

From what I've read, Soul Calibur (XBLA) really has nothing to offer those who already have Soul Calibur (DC).

The graphics are the same, so there's no positive there.
There's no online play, so there's no positive there.
The mission mode is gone, so there's a negative there.
There are are achievements and a leaderboard, so there are two positives.

But in your opinion, are these two things worth the $10?

Lack of Mission Mode is a bummer. Only real other positive beyond the achievements is possibly the controller if you didn't like the DC one.

No online, no mission mode, no graphical upgrade means it's essentially worthless if you already have the Dreamcast version.

I voted 'yes' but then I saw the mission mode was missing so I'm now leaning towards 'no'.

In short: No mission mode = no purchase.

Mission mode IS Soul Calibur (at least the single player portion). I can't imagine why anyone would want this neutered version if they already have the DC version at home.

I'm all for companies re-releasing great retro games, but this is a substantially lesser version. IGN's review said everything is automatically unlocked from the start. I mean, c'mon...how lame is that?

achievements and leaderboards are nice. I can't believe they didn't give this mission mode and an HD treatment!

I'm still kinda interested for the achievements and leaderboards... but I'll just hold off for SC4 next month

The reason there is no mission mode or online is because this game was made using the original 150 mb cap.

When MS raised the cap, this game was pretty much done, and the point is to release it around SC 4, not delay it for another six months to a year or whatever and get this stuff back in.

So blame MS for having the shitty 150 mb cap, and Namco just decided to roll with it rather than complain. IIRC, Namco would have added online if the cap was not there, along with the mission mode, which pushed the game over 150 mb. I believe this is also why there is no graphical update, as well.

Its not at all, trust me. The videos on my site (ptoponline.com hah) are about as much as I can stand to play the game, as there is absolutely nothing to it.

I thought Soul Calibur was overrated, even then.

I got incredibly burnt out on fighting games, back in the 16/32-bit era, because there were so damn many of them.

MvC2 is the only modern fighting game I'll even consider playing.

Soul Calibur is fantastic, but a big part of its charm and longevity was Mission Mode. They should have just included a full version in a $70 Special Limited Edition release of SCIV, perhaps in a Tin shaped like George Lucas' head.

    So no.

    Nah, I'll wait for SC4.

Besides you can buy SC2 for the xbox and play it on the 360. That costs around $10 also.

No. I kinda misssed the boat with Soul Calibur. Besides, it doesn't have the same 'attraction' the arcade classics like Robotron and Pac-Man do.

No mission mode is the breaking point for me. Half the fun of that game was completing the missions. The lack of online mode is not a huge concern for me but makes me angry because releasing ANY game on XBLA without an online mode is ridiculous. What makes this worse is that it's a FIGHTING game without online mode. Shame on you Namco!!!
