Holy crap. That does look awful. How'd this get past their testers?

Oh god damnit, i was totally holding out for the 3000 based on the better screen! can't these guys get it right, 2000 had dead pixels and now this! *sigh* oh well i guess theres always the 4000 in the future. (just assuming based on how rapidly they keep coming out with new versions)

Thanks alot for posting this! I was going to upgrade from my PSP 1000 to the 3000 but thank god I didn't....the main reason was for a "better screen" but damn those pictures make it look even worse, totaly not worth the upgrade!
My PSP-2000 has 2 dead (or rather sky blue) pixels and horrible battery life (had it about 7 months), but the picture is still gorgeous. I hope they resolve this issue. It's such a good little portable, hampered by such silly technical hang-ups!
I'm reserving judgement until I see video comparisons in action.
I mean ... currently we have a minimal amount of blurring on 1000 and 2000 PSPs ...
... after reading nearly 10 pages of that forum, it seems to me that the only thing going on is that the blurring has been replaced with a "higher resolution" type of distortion in the same places that we'd encounter blurring on the 1000 and 2000.
Don't get me wrong ... I'm not going to part with my PSP 2000 UNTIL I see some type of video, I just want to see it in action.
*edit* been tracking the forum threads on this all day, and there are reports that this COULD be a defect relegated to a batch of PSP 3000s.

Ill stick with the PSP 2000 for now, the last thing sony needs is to F up on their portable.

Haha. I love my 2000. Time to track down another one!
Shame, because I was really wanting a nice new 3000. Hopefuly this is just limited to a certain production run of screens and the problem will be fixed. The original comparison screen shot featuring the strawberries looked much better.Originally Posted by gamingbits.com

Huh, I guess I'll wait until they sort this out to buy a PSP.
I never knew the 2000 and 3000 where supposed to have "better" screens anyway. My launch PSP screen looks just fine. I'll upgrade when they come out with the dual analog version.
"One of the ways I gauge a DS game is by recharges. "...Tycho (Penny Arcade)
That Metal Slug screen shot looks exactly like what happens when you turn the RGB levels up on an LCD screen (My projector especially).
So, what I'm taking this as, is that the screen is fine, until you turn on an extra option?
Is it really any different than turning the black level up on your 360 with a display that can't display the full range, and then going "Holy crap! the games are too dark, this thing sucks!" ?
/edit: Or maybe I'm wrong, after reading a few pages of the PlayStation forums....

It was said even before release that the color wide setting was for new PSP titles that are produced to take advantage of it, not older titles.
I'd be curious what the comparisons were when it was turned off. I suspect there's no issue here.
I think that it is a bigger problem here. Several sites are now reporting problems. If anything, Sony should have clear instructions on how to play older games on their new system if it is a setting issue. It looks like to me(been reading mult forums) it is a hardware/compatibility issue.
Lets hope that Sony fixes this soon

I'm glad I didn't preemptively sell my 2000!!!
The new "PSP Store" added in the latest firmware is pretty awesome ... I can't believe how fast the downloads work.
"And the book says: 'We may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us.'"
Glad I finally pulled the trigger on a GoW 2000 last week. IMO the 2000 screen is awesome so, why the change? Cost I'm guessing. This 3000 business is just sad.

I'm happy I still have my silver Daxter PSP2000.
Those pictures, for me, look horrible (on the PSP3000).

This is awful news, I have been holding off of getting a PSP-2000 (and replacing my 1000) because the 3000 looked so fabulous. Although I suppose it won't matter since I have a LCD and can use the video out as is.
However, I heard down the line that the 3000 has both SDTV and HDTV output.
