Default yay! my first successful acual MOD (NES)

just started really getting into modding and usually the results are not so succssesful but i acually did a pretty decent mod on a NES and figured i would share it

first i did the usual, replace LED with blue, disable lockout chip, clean pin connectors but i also seen a mod for a remote reset button here (http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/...nes_mod_en.php) and decided to give it a try.

first off i didn't like the large 1/4 jack he used. also i wanted to acually put the button on a controller as opposed to just haveing a cut cord at the end.

the result worked perfectly and looks pretty nice

anyways just thought i would share.

Nice. I've considered doing a similar mod for the Atari 2600 putting the Select and Reset buttons in easy reach on a joystick.

Very cool mods. I have never seen the reset mod before, but I definately need it. I own about 20 multicarts for the NES and would love to try this mod. It looks easy, was it? Also, what did you use for the cord? It looks like another NES cord.
    Anyways, nice job!

very simple mod, if you know how to solder and drill a hole you can do it.
the cord i acually picked up for about $4 at radio shack but i'm sure it can be found cheaper. its just a 1/8 audio cord pre tinned. they had a few of them when i was there. just a 1/8 jack on one end and the other end was pre cut and seperated into two strands and already tinned. made things very easy.

the hardest part was just finding room in the nes controller for the extra bit of cord and the switch.

Methinks a Master System could benefit greatly from a mod like this, to add the pause button to a controller.

    Nice work man.

Nice sc that's one way to get more use out of a nes.The resit button on the nes controller is a nice touch as well.

    Nice work man.

I actually did that in the early 90s. Since the A button was never used on a Genesis controller when playing SMS games, I modded the system and controller and got not only pause, but slow-mo from the turbo function!

It was the only way I could ever beat Rambo, and even then it was a bitch.

Pretty sweet. Was there any room to place both cords next to each other? Possibly come from the same hole? I'd like to do this, then cover both cords with some wire wrap that you see under the hood of a car (if you can find some that's really flexible).

i suppose you may be able to do it with some manouvering and patience. you would have to widen the hole. or you could maybe take the wire up to the hole and then use smaller guage wire. i may try something like this later.

i tried acually doing the mod without the use of a second wire today on an idea a friend over at pcenginefx game me. wireing the button to the ground and 5v contacts inside the controller. unfortunitly i could not get this to work, it just made an intresting noise and shut the game down when the button was pressed but it did not restart the game.
