Default My Dreamcast got Reeeeeally Quiet!

Last I recall, my Dreamcast sound worked fine.

Tonight, I plugged it in & no sound.

I checked my gaming extension cable that goes to my receiver & it works fine w/ other consoles.

Then, I *thought* I heard something, so I turned up my receiver's volume *all* the way until it said "MAX". I hear it! It's still rather on the quiet side, but the sound *is* there, so my Dreamcast AV cable seems to be OK. I figure it's some internal sound amplifier in the DC that's gone kaput? I've got a pretty nice receiver, so it should be deafening at "MAX" (I don't think I've ever even taken it to MAX before!).

So, anybody got an idea of what to do to fix this?

    Thanks!
    -Jason

Try a different input on the receiver to see if it's the receiver or cable.
or it sounds like the input select is on the wrong setting.

Thanks, but that shouldn't be a problem.

I used the same extender cable (S-video, RCA video, L, R) to run my N64 into the same input on the receiver & it works fine...

    Thanks,
    -Jason

i actually have this trouble sometimes. the cable that plugs into the back of the dreamcast gets lose enough to not make contact with a few pins. try pushing it in again or unplugging and replugging it in. try another cable. have a feeling that is what is what is happening.
my games. don't have xbox just games for it. game gear is messed up.

Thanks for the reply. The sound fixed itself, but then I experienced frequent resetting. This thread led to a helpful page describing how to clean & bend some internal power pins to make better contact. I played the console for 1-2 hours last night with no problems, so I *hope* that it's been cleared up.

Let me know if it ever starts resetting on you again. I offer a mod that should prevent any random resetting for the rest of the DC's life. Much stouter then just bending pins

    Thanks--what's the mod? Sounds interesting.

(unless it's proprietary & you don't wish to share--that's OK)

    Thanks,
    -Jason
