Question good bye monitor =( How should i go abouts a new one?

So the other day I decide to turn my arcade machine on and play it alittle, after that i jumped on the computer and then took a nap forgetting that i left the machine on...
Well it was on for about 2 hours and I awoke from the nap to a loud snap then a burning circuit board type smell I checked my room to see what it was cable box, computer, ect, Then i remembered I left my arcade machine on. The screen was completely dead but i still got sound and the light was still on on top.
I opened all the windows to my room and turned on a fan to get the smell out, Later once the smell was cleared out of my room me and my friend carefully removed the CRT. (something in my older threads i was afraid to do.) Anyway its out now and i was wondering whats the best way to get a new one?

I seen them going for like $200 off ebay

This looks perfect but my game is vertical so I am not sure

my other option is my friend wants me to get a RGB to VGA converter and just get a LCD monitor and do it that way, but i am unsure about how its going to work power wise and visual wise.
    here are the converters

    Can anyone help me?

First thing to do is determine what conked out and then repair the monitor you have.

sadly the monitor is long gone... and i think your right stonic. The monitor always had a problem it showed a distorted picture no matter what setting the board was on or how much you moved the dials on the CRTs back side. it also had burn-in image of GAME OVER.. but yeah i just need help replacing it what are your thoughts?

You mean the stand inside? I took off the things holding in my monitor up inside.

I actually visited that site earlier today (for the first time) as they have this, which other people have been selling for $200-$250 before S&H. Not cheap.

Well... i'm Thinking the LCD would be to much of a hassle to try to figure out the where to plug in the monitor and the converter and setting it all up. I just made a bid on the ebay auction hopefully i will win that.

I have one of these local to me,well several miles away..I like the idea of being able to walk in and buy a part..Plus play all the machines hey have on display for Free..

I've bought a lot of parts from them and my Dad picked up a Pinball machine from another Betsons a bit further away..I got a deal here and there on things I needed that were more more expensive elswhere.
I might need to buy a monitor myself there someday..

I have a 25inch monitor in storage that worked when I put it in there but I'd prefer to put a new one in my Big Red if I had to..

I wouldn't get an LCD screen unless you get one made specifically for a cabinet, and even then it won't run classic games well (if at all). You'd need an upscaler at the least (which introduces its own problems).

As you know, back in the day arcade manufacturers made hardware (think "a console" except just the single board) for their games with whatever specifications they wanted, and CRT monitors would be able to deal with almost any refresh rate thrown at them (so long as it was lo-res; things get tricky when you have a medium or high resolution game). LCDs are fixed at a rate, and I find it hard to find many 60Hz PCBs I like, so even with the signal upscaled and converted to VGA plug-compatible by my XRGB-2 I find that almost all my PCBs look wacky on my monitor (and it's about as close to CRT as LCDs get - 60Hz refresh, 4:3 aspect ratio).

Some games have sync issues with LCDs that aren't made for cabs. What kind of cab do you have and what monitor brand was it; Nanao, Wells-Gardner? If your old monitor is a nanao, you probably wont be able to find a Nanao replacement. Wells-Gardner is probably your best bet for a new monitor- it all depends on the size of the monitor you need.

The game is raiden fighter 2 Op. hell dive, The cab is a sega cab that used to have areo fighters in it so i guess its a conversion cab I am pretty sure my monitor was a 19". I am not sure the brand. I wanted to get it out of my house asap because i was worried the smell was something toxic can't be to safe. the monitor is still outside my friends house. I cant check what type it was.

Thanks for the info though about the LCD i am sure not going to get that now.

betsons sounds like a cool place but i lived here all my life i never seen one =/

I'm not sure where you are located but check this page for locations..

    http://www.betson.com/about/offices2.php

I needed something from them once and it was located at another Betsons in another state, they had it brought to the Betsons near me for no charge.

The first thing to do is to post a pic of your monitor's boards so we can tell you what make/model you have.

If it's a common one then you can get a cap kit and flyback to replace the parts in yours cheaply. Once rebuilt you should get years more service out of it.

    19'' are discontinued.......

I would suggest maybe , try a RGB to vga and start using pc monitors on ''arcade monitor frame''

you would be able to find them so cheap!
