Default Retro Gamer for US citizens

Sorry about the spammy nature of this, but I know that a lot of occassional US readers have been put off by Retro Gamer's high price and we've managed to rectify it.

Anyway, as of next issue you'll be able to buy RG from the likes of Borders and Barnes and Nobles for just $10

On top of this a subscription for 13 issues will cost you just $80, far cheaper than the previous offer.

To get this great deal just head to www.imaginesubs.co.uk/RET and type in YOUTUBE in capital letters.

I see that it's supposed to be 50 pounds for US residents, but when I checked out, it still came up 80 pounds. I sent an email and hopefully it will be corrected prior to billing my credit card.

I thought you could always buy it for $10. I used to buy it when i lived in the states (many moons ago) and I thought it was $10 or less. I know it was less than $10 when I bought it in Malaysia....

Nope, I've been paying far more than $10 for mine. But I still look forward to seeing a new issue on the shelves anyway. Even though Barnes & Noble stores don't always stock it, and I end up driving to several locations to find the latest issue.

I've been picking them up at Barnes and Nobles for years, but a subscription would be nice. I'm just concerned that they will show up in bad shape from travel from the UK.

Any chance we might be able to get them closer to their release date? It seems they are always a month or two behind.

That would be the whole point mate
Trip Hawkins subs to the mag and he normally sends me a "great issue" email about a week after its hit the shelves in the UK. As far as I'm aware one of the major benefits is that you should get the mag more or less as quickly as UK readers.

Unless you can provide a link that states otherwise (as your initial posting is not even proper http) retroGAMER subs are still 80 sterling to the US.

If this had a changed, which is quite significant, I'd be quite sore as I just renewed my 3rd year sub and paid 80. I would hope if it did drop there would be reimbursement.

    I used this one:

    www.imaginesubs.co.uk/RET

and it asked for the code, which I put in, but it still rang up as 80 instead of 50 pounds.

It states in your details that you're from Canada, which I think comes under Rest of the World. As far as I'm aware this offer is for US residents only.

As I said in a previous post, it's been bought to my attention that it's still showing as £80 for the US which isn't correct. I'm on holiday, but have sent an email to the subs department to sort this.

Hooray! I'll subscribe as soon as the website is corrected. I noticed it lists the right price in the small print, but the form still has the old price:

    US readers:

Pay just £50 for 13 issues/1 year (equivalent to only $80 as at August 09).

I believe I too usually see it for $11.99 at the bookstores, and Microcenter. EDGE is only $8.99...$9.99 is nice but I too will consider the subscription when the site is updated...

I bought my B&N issue last week and spotted the $9.99 price tag as a suprise. I'm not about to subscribe, but I will keep buying them at the store as a reason to hit the book shop. Now if only the quarterly BSD Magazine were less than $15.

Strideristhebest??? Hmmmm... Judging from the name, this sounds like this is the work of Darren! Welcome to the forums!

I noticed the price drop as well. I have been buying RG since before the monthly DVD was dropped and will continue to do so for years to come. Actually, I'll be subscribing the mag once again.

Originally I subscribed when you guys were with the original publisher and when they dropped the mag I lost the subscription and my money! So I have just been buying it issue by issue for some years now.

But I have to say it's one of the best Mags I have ever read and you guys do an incredible job (Even with the regular staff changes). Keep up the good work and you can look forward to an additional subscriber!

That's still pretty damn expensive for a magazine.

We don't get mass advertiser and publisher discounts in the UK compared to US magazines. Conversely our magazines don't have every other page as an advert

Hmm. Oversized format. All full color glossy pages. Thick cardstock covers. Embossing, shiny inks, and other special surprises each month on the covers. Great articles about older classic systems that get ZERO coverage here in the States in magazines. Still sounds like a bargain to me at $10 a month!!

And we REALLY appreciate that fact, too! I do have to say that I've been missing the "Gentlemen's" ads that used to appear in the back of each issue though. Those were interesting to say the least, but did make it awkward when my kids flipped through. (Or maybe I'm thinking of GamesTM? - thought it was both mags)

For those who have pmd me, Canada will be included soon.
There's an update about various questions here

Anyway I'm glad to hear people are enjoying the magazine. It's hard work, but I've been the editor now for 50 issues and i'm still loving it. Expect to see for more US centric stuff in future issues as well...

Is this a permanent price change, or a special (temporary) promotion?

I'm just asking because I have a few more issues before I need to re-subscribe.

    Thanks.
