    Talking Gotta make ROOM...

    In order to make room, you have to get rid of one of your consoles (we'll stick with consoles for now). This assumes you have more than one, which most of us do. This includes all games and accessories.

    Which would it be?

    I have:

    CV
    2600
    5200
    7800
    NES
    Intellivision.

    This is a tough one. An obvious choice would be the 2600, since the 7800 plays most 2600 games. But that's MOST games, not all. Some of the better ones I cannot get running on a 7800.

    The CV is obviously going nowhere, and- contrary to what some at Atari Age might think- neither is the 5200 (there's just something about it that captures a good era in gaming). Besides, I've put far too much work into the thing!!

    I also like the Intellivision, even though it's been years.

    Really, then, it's either the 7800 or the NES. The NES has Elevator Action, Galaga, Gauntlet, and others, but the 7800 has Food Fight, Dig Dug, Joust, Xevious (I prefer the last two to the NES), and such.

    So, for me, though it's close, it would be the NES. Although I would consider the 2600, so it's not 100%. Hey- now that I'm posting this, it's a really tough question. So if you can't fully decide, I'm sure in no position to say anything!
    Interesting stuff, here (COMPLETELY unbiased opinion, hehhehheh):

    I've got the SNES, N64, Xbox, X360, PS2, and Wii; admittedly not the most vintage collection, but whatever.

    For me, this is incredibly easy. Given that I've got the 360 and that it plays original Xbox games, the original Xbox is gone.

    It doesn't play all Xbox games tho, or even many of the ones most people would want it to play.

    I have: NES, Famicom/FDS, Master System, Turbo Grafx, Genesis/32x, CDX, Mega Drive, Mega CD, Amiga CD32, PC Engine CD, SNES, Saturn, PC-FX, N64, Dreamcast, Playstation, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Wii, 360... not to mention handhelds.

    Out of those, I would get rid of the Xbox & everything with it. I never play it and probably won't ever again after I get around to playing KOTOR. Besides that, the Gamecube could go, but there are a small handful of games I wouldn't want to give up, even tho I don't play them anymore.

    A fair point; even not including the backward compatability issues, I would still get rid of the Xbox; I never play it.

    I have: 2600, Intellivision, Odyssey2, NES, Genesis, SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, N64, Xbox, 360, Wii, and some handhelds. I would probably get rid of my Odyssey2, since I never play it and I really wouldn't miss it. The Wii would be next, since the only game I play on it is Brawl, and even that has gotten old.

    game.com. Have all games, all but one of the games we have are sealed and I can rebuy most of the collection in under 5 minutes.

    That's not really fair though.

    Well let's see, I have: Atari 2600, Odyssey 2, SNES, N64, Jaguar, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Xbox 360, Wii, and assuming we are including home computers, a TI-99/4A, Atari 130xe, and Atari XEGS.

    It would have to be either the Odyssey 2 since it's in my closet and I barely play it or the Atari 130xe.

    The Atari 130xe has a few buttons that don't quite work, plus the XEGS plays all the same games anyway.

    Although the Jaguar, I can't play since I don't have a power supply or controllers.

    I still think I'd go with the 130xe though.

    GameCube... Got a Wii to play all the games, so it's already boxed up, as it is.

    But that was too easy, maybe I need to make it harder. Out of my older systems:

    NES
    SNES
    Virtual Boy
    N64
    Master System
    Genesis/CD
    Saturn
    Dreamcast
    Turbo Duo
    3DO
    Jaguar/CD
    Neo-Geo CDZ
    Amiga CD32

    I think I would drop the CDZ. It would be the Jag CD, but I think I want to keep it to try out some homebrew one of these days. The CDZ was underwhelming, and I'd rather have an MVS, anyway.

    Out of a 2600, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Master System, Genesis, PS1 and PS2.....I'd get rid of the PS1 first. Ever since getting the PS2 I've never turned it on. After that, the N64.

    Let's see, I've got:
    * Atari Video Pinball
    * VCS
    * 5200
    * 7800
    * Jaguar, Jag-CD
    * Intellivision
    * Vectrex
    * Colecovision
    * Odyssey2
    * Channel F
    * NES
    * SNES
    * N64
    * Gamecube
    * PS1
    * PS2
    * XBox
    * Many dinky dedicated TV-plug-ins

    (Not including computers or handhelds here)

    I don't know that the Channel F works, never tried hooking it up, and I do know that my O2 requires repair before it's usable. I don't know that it's fair to include them in the question as junking them or the plug-in games would be way too easy a choice.

    So eliminating them, I'd have to decide on either the N64 or the PS1. I almost never play either, and can presumably play most or all of my PS1 games on the PS2. Of course I'd need to keep my PS1 for Vib Ribbon, so the N64 is hittin' the bricks.

    EDIT: WOW - completely forgot about Sega-land!
    Add to the list:
    * Sega Master System
    * Sega Genesis
    * Sega Saturn
    * Sega Dreamcast

    & also forgot:
    * NEC Turbo Grafx 16

    Hmm, still doesn't change my answer.

    Ok. As with the trend I've got

    Nintendo
    Famicom / FDS
    NES
    S-NES
    N64 (x2 1 green 1 first gen rgb)
    GC w/ GBA drive
    GBC (Hot Pink)
    GBA (1st gen w/ afterburner mod)
    DS
    DS Lite

    Sega
    Genesis
    Genesis 2
    Sega CD
    Saturn (x2 one's region modded)
    Dreamcast (x3 one's busted)
    Game Gear

    Sony
    PS
    PS2 (x2 one's modded)
    PS3
    PSP (x2 one for the wife )

    Other
    Xbox
    Xbox 360 (elite)

    3DO

    TG-16 (region moded)
    TG-16 CD (non modded)

    And the obvious choice should I ever have to give one up, would be the 3DO, it ranks a "meh" on my excitement scale.

    32X
    Mega Drive (JP Model 1)
    JVC X'Eye

    Sony

    Atari
    2600 (4 switch)
    Jaguar

    Microsoft
    X Box

    I think I'd have to let go of the 2600, I like it but it honestly never gets played and just kinda sits in the corner of my room.

    Ah I am doing the opposite. I'm getting rid of games for the consoles rather than the consoles themselves. When it comes to my collecting habits, I treasure systems over piles of bad games. I see it only worth it to keep the good to mediocre games each system has to offer.

    If a game is just downright bad, it will only sit on your shelf while you never play it.

    I currently have:

    NES
    Sharp Twin Famicom
    Sega Master System
    Genesis (model 1)
    JVC X'eye
    NEC Super GraFX
    SNES
    Saturn (Japanese White model)
    Dreamcast (japanese launch model)
    PS2 Slim (white)
    PS3 (60GB model)
    X360
    I also have a consolized MVS MV-1C.

    Out of those I don't mind getting rid of the NES cause I have way more Famicom games and don't really care about RPGs so japanese text is not an issue.
    I could get rid of the Genesis if needed also since I have the X'eye.
    Even though I have a 60GB PS3, I mainly play fighting games and backwards compatibility reportedly adds lag due to software upscaling, so I can't get rid of my PS2., Besides that my PS2 is region modded and I have too many japanese titles that wont play on my PS3.

    If I had to get rid of any of those systems plus all games and accessories that will probably be the Master System, even though I love this system I don't really play it anymore.
    Dreamcast would be 2nd, cause most of the games I like have better versions on newer systems or sequels I play more than the originals (3rd strike on PS2, Virtua Fighter 4 EVO and VF5, etc...)
    Getting rid of the Super GraFX doesn't sound too bad considering there's only a handful of exclusive games for it, but I don't have a regular PC Engine/Turbo GraFX so I play all my Hu-Cards on it.

    EDIT: simply added another paragraph to be more on topic.

    A lot of you guys seem to be missing the original point of the topic. It isn't GET RID OF A SYSTEM and that's it. It's GET RID OF A SYSTEM AND ALL THE GAMES AND EVERYTHING FOR IT. So no you wouldn't be able to get rid of a Gamecube and still play the games for it, regardless of them being playable on the Wii.

    I think that makes the topic a lot harder for most of us.

    I love these "case my house" threads.

    Ehh...I'd probably gain the most space from dropping my PC or X68000 systems. The games are huge, and many are heavier than the average PC game with a tiny manual. On top of that, I could get rid of some rather obscure support equipment that's needed to just get it running on a TV, get rid of the MT-32 synths, and so on. On the PC side, well, there's oodles of stuff to drop there, even though I've gotten rid of a PC monitor recently. Come to think of it, I have at least three Macintosh monitors (including one all-in-one system) taking up space, too. Lots of worthless stuff!

    I still need to add systems, but if it were a do or die deal, then N64 or Xbox for me.

    Whoops. That's my fault.

    Alright...going back...if I had to choose to get rid of the system AND all the games for it, I'd probably still get rid of the Xbox. I hardly play any of the games I have for it, and it's really just collecting dust underneath my TV.

    I'd get rid of the TI-99, since i don't have any games for it yet (only boring accounting software), and I have four TI-99s -- losing one wouldn't be a big thing.
