shining up old consoles?

I saw in a lukemorse1 video that he used WD40 to shine up older consoles. He did it with a genesis model 1. When he was done, it looked great. He said that while it does smell, the smell will fade in 2 days.

Has anyone else done this? Will it damage the console?

Well ... just remember that WD40 is both conductive and flammable.

There are plastic polishing sprays out there that are probably safer choices.

OR, you can use Armor All or even Glade Furniture Spray to bring out a nice shine on plastic. (Though be careful using those over a non-carpet floor ... anything that falls on the floor will make it super slippery.)

I used to build oilfield computers inside big fiberglass boxes. I would use WD40 to cover up scratches on the boxes when the customer would be picking them up in a few hours. It would last about a day or so, but after that the scratches would come back.

I don't think it would hurt the console, but your not going to give it a lasting new finish ether. Besides, greasy buildup, smell, WD40+dust... I'll take my consoles just the way it is.
