Question Unknown AV cable? Genesis maybe?

    Hello,
I was going through my junk draw today looking for video game related items that I no longer need. I came across a unknown Audio/Video cable. I think that it may have belonged to a GameAxe that I had years ago. But I am almost certain that I read somewhere that it could also be used for some version of the Sega Genesis.

I am not much of a Sega fan or collector and don't own any version of the genesis/mega drive console, so I am uncertain what it belongs to or can be used for.

I will attempt to describe it first and provide a picture if need be.
It is a stereo audio/video cable with the standard red, white and
yellow RCA jacks on one end, and a S-video like connector on
the other. The S-video like end of the cable only has three pins.

Any information would be much appriciated.
    Thanks,
    Cory

I don't think that is for the Genesis.

The stereo AV cable for the Genesis 2 has more than 3 pins, and I'm pretty sure it needs to use more than 3 to handle stereo and video

Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

    Default Could be Sega Saturn

Could be Sega Saturn, though we really need a picture to help out.

Actually, I'm almost certain that my girlfriend's cheap, mono-sound Genesis cable only has three pins. Could be wrong, though.

Sounds like a genesis 2 cable. The 3 pins are for video, audio left, and audio right. Ground is provided by the metal shield.

The genesis 1 and genesis 2 have vastly different looking connectors. Check here and compare it to yours.

Wow...helpful link...especially for someone trying to figure out why their 32x don't work

    Thanks for providing the schematics.
I was still a little unsure about this cable,
so I used a multimeter to check continuity
between the pins and the ends of the RCA
connectors on the other end of the cable,
and found that it seems to match the
    provided schematic referencing the
    Genesis 2, 32X and Nomad.

I took the best picture I could of the pins inside
of the S-video like end of the plug.

    Here it is:

Notice that I put colored circles around each
of the pins to disignate which RCA plug they
linked up to. Obviously, the yellow is for
composite video, the red is for right audio,
and the white is for left audio.

Perhaps I am looking at it wrong,
but it looks like a Gen2 cable to
me. What do you guys think?

    Thanks for the replies

Not a Gen 2 cable; I've got a fair number of those lying about and they appear interchangeable between the Mega Jet, Genesis 2 and 3 (to name some systems I found also lying around).

Game Axe sounds plausible. I can't imagine any "modern" system getting by with that few pins really - the Genesis 2 cable and connector have maybe 8-9 pins inside the shield (which takes a similar shape), need ground and other signals.

That's definitely a gen2 cable. The pinouts on gamesx are from the side of the connector on the system so the cable would be mirrored.

That is too a GEN 2 cable. The early GEN 2's had this cable. The cables with the full pin set were the ones that were released along side the 32x.

Well thanks for all of the replies everyone.
I have since listed this cable for sale on ChasetheChuckWagon.com,
as I no longer have a use for it.
