Default Sony Wega Has Purple Spot on Screen - Would Degaussing Fix It?

About to throw away my wega since it developed a big purple spot on the upper right. Is it possible to fix this? A friend suggested I buy a degaussing rod but i've never used or bought one before. What's your take on this problem?

These usually form from being around a magnetic source (like a speaker)

A degaussing rod is a possible fix.

Well i'm willing to give it a try then. Does anyone recommend a certin brand of degaussing rod or a site where I can buy one? Ebay would be best.

Was thinking of picking this one up.

I've also heard of people having luck using an electric drill(AC, not DC) or anything similar with an AC motor or coil. A degaussing coil doesn't automatically do the job for you in either case though. You have to know how to do it for it to work right.

And TV's usually have a degaussing coil built in that activates when you turn the TV on. So many times these problems will work themselfs out after a while. I had one that did the same thing and it was fine after a few days. Every time I turned it on it was a little better.

Also, have you recently moved the TV around? That can sometimes cause the colors. That's what caused mine to mess up.
