Default Question about languages in Wii games' packaging.

Some Wii games in Mexico have Spanish text on the cover along with the English text. Do US releases has it too?

Some specific games that have spanish text on the cover are:
    - Metroid Prime Trilogy
    - Battallion Wars 2
    - Marble Saga Kororinpa
    - Onechanbara
    - Metroid Prime 3
    - Castlevania Judgment
    - Excite Truck
    - Fire Emblem

I'd like to know because there are several Wii games that I want but haven't found in stores. I thought about getting them on eBay but if the languages on the cover are a regional thing I'd like to get the latin american version.

Anyway that doesn't seem likely since French is also included but still if someone could confirm that that would be very helpful.

I've bought several US released games for the Wii with Spanish and French on the inserts and manual. I don't think every game does it though, so you might want to tell us which games you are looking to get for a better answer.

Yeah, quite a few do that. Even Super Mario Galaxy does that. I think almost all 3rd party titles are like that, and I guess Ninty is going that way too.

Yeah my brother has a few Wii games as well, which have some Spanish and French as well as English on the back covers. Seems like they just market the games this way for the North American market, though I can't say for sure.

Yeah, a lot more Wii games are like that too. For instance:

Nintendo seems to have decided to use the same cover art in all 3 North American countries. Makes things a lot simpler. Do Mexican boxes have the ESRB rating on them?

Thank you. I kinda suspected that that was the case since the covers also included French (for Canada I assume). Well if this isn't a regional thing I shouldn't have any qualms about getting them from eBay then.

Yes, the Mexican boxes have the ESBR rating.

I don't recall seeing Spanish on our Canadian boxes.

Also, we typically include an English and French instruction book for Canadian releases and I know that we don't get Spanish instruction books.

We don't have our own game rating system, there's no real point since the ESRB does a fine job at it. We normally don't get special Mexican editions; companies just import the games, put a sticker on it (like the ones on izarate's scans) and ship them out to stores.

Yeah, all Nintendo's own releases on the Wii have French and/or Spanish on them. I guess it saves printing different releases for Canada and Mexico now.

I've never seen Spanish on any Wii packaging here in Canada. Nintendo themselves use bilingual case inserts, and stick two manuals in the case.

Some third parties take US English releases, and then shrinkwrap a French manual to the (already sealed) case), but even that is getting less common.

Some Xbox games in Mexico (1st party mostly) had Spanish-only manuals and covers while the US releases had them in English. Some of them had a green oval saying that Spanish dub and/or subtitles were available in-game:

They were exactly the same as the US ones except that they were translated. Even quotes from US sites/publications are present:

360 games from MS and Tecmo also come with Spanish covers and manuals:

Notice the lack of English text.

Most of the time the only thing we got was a B&W Spanish manual along with the full color English one.

I guess that's better than nothing.

They aren't that bad although the 360 ones are worse than the Xbox ones for some reason (A hero within =/= Un héroe desde dentro). I suppose that the translations weren't handled in Mexico.

Microsoft is really on the ball when it comes to localization. Here in Canada, they've been known not only to release full French language versions of games (that is, menus and in-game text in French), but even French language LE's. All three releases of Halo 3 were available fully in French, as was Forza 2 LE (and probably other games too, but those are the only ones I know for sure off-hand).

That makes me wonder, I don't speak Spanish so I can't judge the quality of the translations, but videogames have been translated to Spanish in Europe for ages now. You'd think they'd just use the translation for the European market, which should be of somewhat acceptable quality.

Yeah... NO. That's not "acceptable". Not only does Spain have different conjugations and verbs, a lot of the words and phrases used simply do NOT have the same meaning in Mexico and South America. Some of their verbs are CURSE WORDS down here.

Valve does this with their games, and it's friggin' IRRITATING. The voices suck and they have -no emotions whatsoever-.
