Default Best version of Montezuma's Revenge?

This looks like a pretty decent static platformer. What's the definitive version to play? It was made for:
    -Master System
    -Atari 2600
    -Atari 5200
    -Spectrum
    -IBM PC
    -Commodore 64
    -Apple 2
    -Colecovision
    -Atari 800 computers

Does anybody know a lot about the different ports? I'd assume the SMS, IBM, or Apple 2 version would be the best, but being on a more powerful system doesn't always mean better...
Note: I am talking about the video game, not the disease.

I like the SMS version myself. I'm not familiar enough with the others to comment on them.

I cut my teeth initially on the Colecovision version, but I mostly play the 5200 version nowadays. And yes, it is and excellent and underrated platform game.

I know, but I had to include that notice. You'd be surprised by some of the sarcastic replies on this forum!

I've only played the Atari 2600 and SMS versions.

Of course, graphically, the SMS version is better. However, the 2600 version didn't play as bad as I expected, since I played it after the SMS version and was expecting a major drop in play ability.

The Sega Master System version controls wonderfully. Bright and colorful, it has always been my favorite version of the game.

I always liked the C64 version the best... but I grew up with it, so it might be more about nostalgia than about actual superiority. The SMS version has the best graphics, but somehow I always liked the classic graphics better.

I really like the Master System version but sadly it's one of those SMS games that you have to use the SMS controller to play it.

I think the best version is the Commodore 64, but the Master System version isn't a bad choice, either. The IBM version is actually a PC Booter disk, and thus, isn't very graphically enhanced.

I like the SMS version best as well. The Atari 2600 version isn't too bad but it's fairly simple. The pyramids are rather small but it's still challenging enough.

Here's a little trick I discovered last year for the SMS version.

Wow, seeing that MSX port, and hearing people's thoughts on the Atari 2600 version, it seems there's no bad version of this game. Thanks everyone.

I would say the C64 version is best. The gameplay's equal with the Atari 800 but it's a bit nicer looking. The SMS version might be the most graphically detailed but they sucked all the charm out of the character designs by making them more realistic-looking.

Montezuma's Return for GB/C (it's a black dual-mode cart) is good too, really... it's a "new" game, but heavily inspired by the original. I don't know about the 3d version on PC, I've only played a little of it (seems decent, apart from the problem of having lots of 3d platforming to do in first-person, which is always tricky), but the GBC one is very much like the original...

I'll have to go with the 5200 version myself. But of course you need to use something other than the stock controller for it to be enjoyable

How are Sega controllers mapped when using them on an Atari system, anyways? Would you suggest them for playing platformers on Atari consoles?

I remember when that came out, and yeah it was pretty frigging good.
