Default Easiest way to play early Mega Man games

I've always liked Megaman games, but really suck at them.

I just beat Megaman 10 on easy mode and want to play others.

Is there an easier version for the other mega man games? For instance the genesis mega man compilation or the ps2/xbox/cube versions? Do any of these have an equivalent to Megaman 10's easy mode?

In my opinion, I think the Genesis compilation is a bit easier; not because of any significant changes, but because of the rampant slowdown whenever there is a lot of action on screen. Also, nearly every boss fight has slowdown. I was never able to beat MM1 on the NES, but I had very few issues in completing it on the Genesis compilation. When I was still playing it (haven't touched the game in awhile), I was just flying through MM2, so maybe you'll want to look into that?

I own the Xbox MM compilation and I had the GC version at one point, and as far as I know, they're just as diabolical as the original NES games.

There's an easy mode option on Mega Man Anniversary Collection in the menu. Only works for MM1-7.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

It also has the "Navi Mode," which gives you hints and tips throughout the game. Pretty useful for a first time player, but after a while it gets to be a bit much. Navi Mode also redesigns the weapon select menu, which makes it easier to navigate. For better or for worse, it also changes the music to a "modernized" version, and some of these remixed tracks are quite nice. Others, not so much.

Whichever compilation you get, stay away from the Gamecube collection, the jump and shoot buttons are reversed on the Gamecube pad making it nearly un-playable.

You can find the PS2 version at most GameStop stores for around $12.

I made this mistake years and years ago. I think that made me as angry as I've ever been at a game. You can't map the buttons yourself either. What a disaster.

I rewired my original FC Mobile because of this exact reason. Twenty plus years of playing and you flip the buttons? Aw hell naw!

It pissed me off too. Unfortunately, I don't have a console that plays PS2 or Xbox games, so I've actually gotten used to the Gamecube version, and can play it quite well. If you do end up getting the Gamecube version, there are some controllers that let you remap buttons manually.

I remember reading that Mega Man Anniversary Collection is actually a compilation of the Playstation versions of the games, bar number 7. Is this true?

I never had any problem with the GameCube version of the compilation, and I played and beat all the old NES games. The fact that the buttons were reversed just didn't seem like an issue to me.
I only need 2 more NES games (US)!
