Exclamation NAVA Gamer's Meeting, August 28th: "Battle of the 64's"

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.

    Previously at NAVA...
    - Unusual systems were set up, and gamers got to try something completely different on a Pioneer Laseractive, Emerson Arcadia 2001, Panasonic 3DO and GCE Vectrex.
    - The store's previous high score on "I'm Sorry" was taken in a tight race by Mike "killersquirel" Markowski.
    - The 6PM tournament was 3DO "Way of the Warrior". Mayhem ensued.
    - "Squarepainter" stopped by with some of his amazing hand-painted videogame tribute artwork.
    - Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.
    - Pictures tell it best:

    http://www.digitpress.com/images/store/

This month: It's the battle of 64's. Nintendo 64 vs. Commodore 64. Which will attendees choose as the best? We'll have one of each set up in the main gaming area, each with a solid representation of its respective game library.

At 6PM it's TOURNAMENT TIME. We'll "wing it" and choose a game by 5pm based on whichever system is getting the most playtime. A head-to-head game will determine not only which system wins the day, but which GAMER. Will it be Goldeneye 007? Archon? Mario Party? Way of the Exploding Fist? Be there at 5 and find out!

This month's arcade high score challenge will be "Spelunker", a 1985 platformer released by Irem. I chose this because it was the first game that came to mind when thinking about my favorite Commodore 64 games, and this one also happens to be an arcade game. Spelunker is also an NES game, which is a predecessor to the N64 so there's your links to the day's theme. The person who logs in the highest score by 8pm will get a $20 gift certificate for the Digital Press store and will be added to the new "house champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame located just above the arcade section of the store. Get your practicing in now!

Get your trade boxes in order, it's NAVA time!

    Official Site: http://www.digitpress.com/nava
When: Saturday, August 28th, noon to midnight.
    Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Extra game stations are set up around the store. Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

Goldeneye vs Archon for the tournament... who can honestly pick just one?

I'll have an item for sale/trade (other than that copy of Katamari Damacy for PS2 that I can't seem to get rid of) for the first time in a long time.

My recent Game & Watch collecting binge has left me with a duplicate Donkey Kong II multi-screen.

Details on the unit are here: http://www.intheattic.co.uk/donkey_kong_ii.htm

As far as gameplay goes it's one of the better G&W units.

It's a bit dinged up and missing the metal detailing on the right side of the controls, but the LCD is perfect, the audio is loud, the battery compartment is clean and the battery cover is included.

Here are some pics, PM me if you're interested in it:

I would love to make it to some of these. I don't think I can make the August one, but I am planning on making the September date.

Was visiting the folks out in Jersey this weekend and was finally able to make it out to one of these! Met some good people--most of whom I forgot to ask thier forum names, doh. Played Tempest 2000 for the first time on the store's Jaguar setup (nice), and big ups to Frankie_Says_Relax for proving the merits of the Atari Lynx to me with some great games.. the best for me being Stun Runner (!!!), as well as showing me around in general.

Just wanted to say thanks to all, and particuarily those that were subjected to a "odd" comment or two from my father (you know who you are) who tagged along with me, we just don't let him out much.

I had a good time; met some folks, played some games, bought some stuff.
What better way to spend an afternoon.
I'll certainly be back, just maybe when the weather is cooler.

    Thanks,
    Andy

The A/C is now fixed. But nothing can cool down how hot I smoked the spelunker machine.

Did anyone lose a certain Pitfall game from their trade box?
