Default My Playstation 3 is constantly getting corrupted file system, any suggestions ?

    Good Afternoon, Mates !!

I bought a PS3 Slim this year because of its advantages over the fat models, most importantly the lower power consumption and a better blu-ray drive.

I don't play more than 5 hours a week and the last month i started to feel that my PS3 was working very slow, specially when saving. The problem was annoying but acceptable until i could not play Uncharted 2 at all. The game had severe audio/video synchronizing problems and the loading times were AWFUL.

Long story short : I sent my PS3 to Sony and they returned the box in 10 days and the system worked great again, very fast loading times for games and the XMB.

Yesterday i started Uncharted 2 and it was taking like 8 minutes to start-up .... and i decided to open the XMB and quit the game to re-load it. After doing that my PS3 just beeped and shut itself down.

After rebooting the PS3 was working fine but i decided that it was better to check the FILE SYSTEM ..... and i got the same message as before : The File System is Corrupted and it will be Restored

It apparently restores the file system but if i check the disk again, the message keeps showing .... the system is still working good.

    Any suggestions ??

Should i call Sony again to get it fixed ??, did they really fixed/changed the hard disk ???

I think that if they really repaired the PS3 and has failed again, maybe my home has something to blame because in my city the average temperature is 90 Fahrenheit degrees

A vertical stand is better to keep the PS3 a bit cooler ??

    Thanks for your help

Sounds to me like the HDD is going south. If you can, try installing a new one.

Maybe the "file system is corrupted and will be restored" message is for default and my Hard Disk is fine because is working good.

Anyone has tried to check the file system of a working system ?

Um, no, I'm pretty sure your hard drive is dying. That sort of data corruption keeps happening on drives that have problems.

    Try using another one.

You may also be encountering problems based on the way you are shutting down your PS3. When you get impatient and can't wait, are you pressing the power button once on the front, or are you flipping the switch on the back?

You need to press the power button once - the system should beep a few times and then shut itself down after 5-10 seconds.

Shutting down your PS3 improperly will lead to corruption of files.

If the problem persists, replace the drive. Beyond that, it may just be a hardware issue that has developed.

Just to clear something out, my PS3 is currently working good, its been only a week that it was returned from Sony Repair Service.

Just to make sure, i ask a friend of mine to enter the recovery menu of his PS3 to check what message appeared when he selected to "restore file system" .....

..... and the same message appeared on his Ps3 : "the file system is corrupted and will be restored". he has a fat model and is working great since he bought it a few years ago.

Can anyone confirm if that message appears on your system ???

I always turn-off my ps3 on the menu of the XMB.

Yes, I believe that the file structure can get permanently corrupted possibly via a bad system update, but in some cases it doesn't affect functionality other than registering as a "corrupt" file structure.

Mine, 60 GB launch unit, ALWAYS says that the structure is corrupt even if I've just fixed it, and it never ever effects functionality.

    Format the hard drive.
If that doesn't fix the problem, try a different hard drive.

If you're not encountering any serious issues anymore I wouldn't be too concerned with a corrupt file structure and I wouldn't go through the trouble of re-formatting the drive if it's not absolutely necessary.

I've seen threads on the official PlayStation forums with users like us who have file structures that always get recognized as "corrupt" when in the diagnostics menu but it hasn't affected a single other thing operation-wise.
