    Default Little help? Concerning PS-X-CHANGE

    Hello all.

Some time ago I purchased a PS-X-CHANGE boot disk for my ps1(new, smaller model) game system. As some of you may know, the boot disk requires that you use the included PVC card to hold down the small button in the corner that registers the lid as being closed.

This worked fine for a while, but now the PVC card that holds down the button is no longer sticky, thus unable to hold the button down. Do any of you know any other way I can get this lid button to stay pushed down?

    Thanks for the help...

Just wedge something in there, or get some removable adhesive to stick the piece back on (would rubber cement work?)

This is odd. Dumb question - did you get it "used"? I've had the PVC card in my PS1 for a little over a year now, and it's never budged.

No it wasn't used, it just got unsticky...

Should I put superglue on the thing and stick it back on? It's pretty impossible to wedge someting over the button besides the PVC card and the lid itself....

Damnit I wanna play my imports again! ;(

I'd be hestitant to use something as...well...viscous as superglue. There is a sensor behind that little tab that the PVC card holds in.

Hmmmm...let's see what some of the other experts say.

I was not aware of any sensor behind the tab! Thanks for stopping me from possibly destroying my ps1! o.o'

I have a similar device that uses a spring. If you can find a spring that fits...

The spring is for the older model Playstation.... The new ps1 has such a tiny hole that a spring wouldn't work.

Nay, I did not want to use the sticky in my system, so I clipped a small piece of paper and folded it a few times over. Then inserted it into the hole with a pair of tweezers. As long as it's like 1/4 inch long, you can leave the top part hanging out and pull it back out with tweezers later. Viola! You're playing with imports again.

But you can also just open up the PS1, and look for the little button on the mainboard. Just stick it down, and pad the top of it with some wadded paper, or something, then put the cover back on. That'll probably hold, but games requiring you to change discs won't work, since you need to be able to lift the lid switch to signal the disc change. Personally, I'd recommend looking for a cheap PSX with a parallel port, and using one of the cartridge devices with included spring. So far, I've been able to run pretty much everything, except for Beatmania 4th Mix, which uses insane mod lockout protection, that is really tricky to get around reliably.

I always go straight for the opening. That includes when I'm fixing arcade games at places where I'm not even an employee. :-D
