    Default JVC x'eye help

I went to play sonic cd yesterday and my jvc x'eye stopped working properly. It seems the cartridge side works fine but the cd side isn't working. I don't even get the start up screen and the motor isn't spinning. What can I do? Should I start looking for a new console? Help?

So when you turn on the console without a cart you don't even get the X'Eye Bios screen animation with the music?

Just want to clarify, most have an issue with the lid switch. May be a fuse but I am not quite sure where it's located on the X'Eye, as the only ones that I've had to fix have been lid switch or laser issues. If you are not getting that screen at all let me know, maybe I can take mine apart and find where the fuse is.

Oh, also. Are you using the right AC Adapter? Should be the 1.2A adapter. If you are using a Genesis 2 adapter it might not be giving it enough juice (although usually it will work, but if you've been using the wrong adapter maybe you stressed it)

I am not even getting the bios screen. I am using one of those universal ac adapters that let me select the right voltage and it is the right amperage (supposedly). I only used a Genesis 2 adapter very briefly.

Hmm.. ok. Not sure if the console even has a fuse, but I would think that it does. I will take mine apart soon and see if I can find it. If I do find it the way to test to see if it's ok is to see if you are getting continuity at both ends of the fuse. The fuse is probably around the power supply area of the mainboard but I will have to take a look for you.

My original x eye adapter says: output:9.5v 1.5A. I have 3 x eyes, one that works completely, one where only the cart side works and the other one where only the cd side works. One of the two "broken" ones I bought wouldn't power on at all, and upon opening it up I found that it had a blown capacitor near the power area, which I replaced and tried it with the original adapter and now shows a bios screen.

Id have to take it apart again to see, I don't even remember the specs for it, it was a couple years ago now. If you would like me to take it apart and try to find it again I surely can. Also forgot to mention the polarity on the adapter is center positive.

Funny I thought two of the three I had were broken, but it turns out two work fully and the other one has a laser issue. The value for the old cap was: 47uf 16v, I replaced it wiht a 47uf 35v as that's all I could find at ratshack, but it still works.

The red arrow pointing to the light blue cap in this pic:

I bought the console not working just for the controllers and the pack in game, and figured id tinker with it to make it work. Upon inspection the previous cap's fiber was blown all over the board but the metal case was still intact. Popped that blue one in and both sides work now, just tried rampart for the cart and popful mail for the cd side.

Hope I provide some info for the op.

If you require anymore pictures one of my working units has no screws, so all I have to do is pop the top off and snap some pics. Hit me up with pm in the future, maybe ill remember to log in once in a while.

Well opened it up today and see no evidence of any blown capacitors.

did you remove the plastic shield on the left side of the board? Caps can be bulging as well, not necessarily exploded. Beyond that I don't really know, you said it won't turn on at all? no bios screen or music playing? are all the cords connected correctly? is your power supply center positive?

the cartridge side works and I know that the Ac adapter has the correct specs printed on it. I will check again for bulging caps this time.

Could be a fuse if there's one there.

I am having the same issue. No bios but cant see any bad caps. Wonder if I should just try the one by the power supply like the other guy did.

Seeing means nothing. Testing means everything.

Caps fail over time as a guarantee. I recapped a TG16 the other week merely as a precaution to prevent future failures.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?
