Lightbulb Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) pulled from Virtual Console [Joystiq]

You waited too long. It was only a couple bucks, but you thought, "I have time. It'll always be there. I'll get to it eventually." But now you can't download Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the Virtual Console and your world is destroyed.

Honestly, it was a weird goal to have, but we didn't want to say anything. In each and every region, it seems the turtles have retreated from the Virtual Console. Nintendo World Report reports Konami cited an "expired license," the same issue that claimed TMNT Turtles in Time Re-Shelled.

There's no word on whether the turtles will return to the surface any time soon, so we've contacted Konami for more.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) pulled from Virtual Console originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 14 Feb 2012 11:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

    That blows.

Then again, that's one of the reasons I like to have the original game. I can play it whenever I want.

Thus showing one of the advantages of physical media over digital distribution: Once a cartridge is printed, it exists pretty much for good. Something that's all-digital can easily be lost.

Just wait until the only way to play games is via streaming services like OnLive. License expires? Bye bye games you dig.

Which is when I will stop buying new games. I will not pay to simply borrow things. That's what rental services are for.

Yep. If I'm footing the bill, I'm the only one who gets to tell me when to not play it.

And I realize people that already bought TMNT don't have it magically removed from their Wii, but suppose they delete it needing room for something and then want to play it again later, not knowing it's been pulled? Yeah, that's why I say f the digital distribution.

The game is still there for those that need to redownload it through their download history. It's just disappeared from being available to purchase by removing it from the storefront (As have several other games over the years like the SMS version of Gradius and NES Ghost 'n Goblins when the arcade version was released).

Well stated. While I do purchase DLC games from XBL I only get them during a sale(anything less than $10). But if the industry moved entirely to digital and new games still cost $60 to download then I'd just play all my old games and would forget about that gen.

As for TMNT, I have the original so it's no big deal to me but that scenario thats in the OP happened to me with Double Dragon. For some reason I kept putting it off and when it went away there was no warning. So now all I have is the demo. And even though when something like this happens to a game you already own, you can usually still download it if you previously deleted it for space. However, that will only last for as long as the servers are up. If they shut down completely(like the original XBL ones did in 2010) you can no longer download your previous purchases.

Hmm, it's not really that big of a deal. The game was only available for two days. They probably uploaded it and got a request to take it down right away.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]
