Question The date September 11th in gaming

Right, so this might sound a little weird, but I figured it was worth asking. Two of the three games I've played this month, NIER, and Child of Eden, have main characters whose birthdays happen to be mentioned in the games, and both the lead character in Nier, and Child of Eden's Lumi, were born on September 11th. Now, this is probably just a coincidence, but it seems odd that of all the dates it could possibly be, two unrelated characters in (Japanese) games which don't have stories that relate to the infamous 9/11 tragedy in any way happen to be born on that date, and I happened to play these games back to back.

It got me wondering if this is a common birthday to use for fictional characters in the East and/or if the date holds some significance in Asian culture.

I don't know, maybe they're fascinated by the whole 9/11 thing over in the East. After all, GameFreak put Ground Zero in its latest Pokemon game, and made one of its Pokemon spawn from the ashes.
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?

According to the responses on that page you linked, the Ground Zero thing isn't true:

Being the resident Pokemon fan, I’ll mention a couple of things: Kyurem is found nowhere near that area, and it’s actual Pokedex entry (at least in the English version) has its height at 9′10″

The Unova region those games take place in is based on New York City.

If you want to believe that the large desert region (made that way by a falling meteor) with all sorts of construction / building going on right smack dab in the middle of this area ISN'T a reference to Ground Zero, that is entirely up to you.

And Deus Ex predicted 9/11 when they pulled the visuals of the twin towers out of the game due to high memory consumption.

Conspiracy theories are usually as true as a scientific hypothesis authored by a loud fart.
