Lightbulb Rumor: Shenmue 1 and 2 HD finished, hitting XBLA/PSN [Joystiq]

All right, before we go any further than that headline up there, we want everyone playing along at home to go to the kitchen and bring back one of those big cardboard cylinders of Morton's salt with the little metal flap on top.

Got it? Okay great, because you're going to need more than a grain for this one: HD versions of Shenmue 1 and 2 have been completed for more than a year and are pending release on XBLA and PSN, according to an anonymous source reporting to Gamerzines. The source goes on to say that Sega has been sitting on the remakes while it decides the fate of a potential Shenmue 3, though the source did not specify what that fate is.

Look, we're not saying that it isn't true, or that we don't want HD remakes of two of our favorite games ever, because of course we do. We just want you to be careful and not get your precious little hopes up, only to have them dashed to pieces -- your broken, mangled hearts never able to trust or love again.Rumor: Shenmue 1 and 2 HD finished, hitting XBLA/PSN originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 17 Mar 2012 15:00:00 EST. O RLY?

Hopefully it gets a good remake. I have never played the original.

I'm glad Sega is starting to utilize some of the franchises it has parked on the bench.

It would make more sense to release the games and see how they do before making any decisions about a sequel.
What the article is suggesting is just ass backwards, which leads me to believe the rumour is true, since that is how Sega has been run for the last two decades.

I have never played either game. But the X-Play montage made it look like theres alot to do with finding sailors.

Shenmue was definitely innovative, but once GTA III came out, sandbox games were changed forever and Shenmue couldn't compete.

I have the game on Dreamcast, and it's definitely one of the best games on the system. If you want a "modern" Shenmue, play Deadly Premonition.

If Sega ends up handling this like they did with the XBLA versions of Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi, I'll stick to the DC version.

    Yakuza is amazing.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

    I'll just leave this here.

And, yes, that's really Yu Suzuki.

    Also yes Cliff Bleszinski.

Yes the yakuza series has done pretty well (you have what like 6 games now three of which I've owned one of which is japan only sadly) and a movie. They can make shenmue a success.

Relese it with improved HD graphics. They either need to redo the dub and or offer the Japanese with subtitles. price it well so it can sell and offer a demo. Offer both games in full. Maybe offer the shenmue movie in some form. perhaps the soundtrack again? Some wallpaper/themes and other goodies and hyping it up to would be good ideas.

Here's hoping it sells well I know I will buy it maybe even several times to show support so we can have part 3!

They need to go the Yakuza route and add lots of gratuitous swearing.

I agree with this. Once I tried playing Shenmue, I sold off my system without regrets.
