Default Mega / Sega CD 1 - Not powering up, not fuse related.

Hi there im new to the forums, ive read around for the last hour and cant find any one on the net having my problem.

Using Megadrive 1 PAL + Mega CD 1 PAL

I have replaced the fuse and know its working because: 1 the heat sink heats up + 2 the laser assembly moves back to a default position when moved when off and then switched on.

Problem is not the power supply (tested 2), fuse (replaced), megadrive (tested 2), or contacts on ribbons or MD to MCD conacts (cleaned).

Sounds like a blown cap to me but i have no idea which one, any ideas.

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: to clarify when plugged in + switch on etc. nothing happens, no disc spin, no LED allumination.

Try another Mega CD or Megadrive, You need to find out which side is broken.

    Ben.
Sorry about that. Check the bios chip in case there is a bad bios mod on it, unless you know the history of this unit. It is also possible that an IC has a broken connection, I once broke mine that way when I removed the grounding plate. Also check the lower connector on the Megadrive to Mega CD bridge block.

Thanks for the reply, annoying thing is that it was powering on untill i opened it up!

ive visually checked all the chips and resistors etc and there doesnt seem to be anything not in contact (ive given everything a wiggle for good measure!)

and i checked and cleaned the bridge block.
