Default Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (GBC)

I have a copy of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (GBC) that I am thinking of selling. I would be selling the game, box, and manual; all in excellent condition. Price checks on ebay weren't helpful. I found loose copies recently sold ranging from $0.99 to $19.99. There weren't too many boxed copies sold recently: one was $12.99, another was $24.99 (both had additional inserts beyond manual).

Not sure what's a good price. Any suggestions?

Depending on condition, probably $20-30... Mario games tend to hold their value.

A lot of GB/GBC games are worth big money when CIB; unfortunately, this is one of the games that has way too many copies floating around to be worth more than about $20. Even new sealed copies don't go over $60 (and are usually quite a bit less than that).

Indeed. GB/GBC collecting is a true extremist venture that doesn't near get credit it deserves. And NOT due to cost. A few games are so scarce/obscure to hunt down without contacts to assist you, CIB or not, they don't have a clear value. It's difficult on games that too infrequently appear for sale anywhere. Try to just "happen upon" a person offering Hammerin' Harry (PAL) or Chikyuu Kaihou Gun ZAS (JPN) at any price...
    Lum fan.

Speaking of hard to find Gameboy games, has anyone ever heard of Tripworld? Would love to find that game someday. Also to answer the question, I'd say $20-$30 is fair for SMB Deluxe.

A sealed copy recently sold on ebay for $75! Another price example that's really all over the board. There just seems to be no consistency, at least none that I notice, for current sales of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.

Actually, yes. But just by chance and I wasn't searching for it. I want to say it was a picture of the box, but not positive. Don't even recall where I stumbled upon the picture. Maybe on the import thread here on the forums?

Hm, my prices on this game must be old. I just checked completed listings (through VGPC so I'd get older ones than Ebay shows) and there are some insane prices for sealed on there. I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't snatch up the two $60~70 ones off Amazon now.

[edit: And the reason it was so cheap for so long was b/c you could still buy a case of them if you wanted to. They were fairly plentiful at least a year or so ago.]

Another thing that might keep demand for Super Mario Bros. Deluxe low is just how bad of a port it is. Since you can't see the whole screen as it is zoomed in on character, making you scroll up and down to see what is above or below you that really messes up the gameplay. Playing it on the Game Boy Player for Gamecube also doesn't feel too comfortable and you end up messing up a lot when compared to playing the game via NES, Wii Virtual Console or even emulated on the PS1.

I call it the "Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis" of the Mario series.

This is such a damn shame. I really enjoy the extras modes on this version like You vs. Boo, Challenge, and the other goodies like the Fortune Telling in the Toy Box, not to mention the added animation for the water and lava. I would have loved to see this released on the NES or a hacked version of it that game us full screen Super Mario Bros. + Deluxe. Oh well...
