Default Ever have a game "put you in your place"?

So I've been playin alot of genesis lately. Gettin thru the sonics. Destroyed the streets of rage trilogy. Got thru golden axe and strider with ease.

Then I picked up a copy of "the adventures of batman and robin" not knowing anything about it.

Long story short I suck at it. I can't even get past the first mini boss.

Very few games really knocked me off my pedestal this hard. Ghost and goblins on Nes is the only other one I can think of.
I'm the best there is at what I do. But what I do best isn't very nice. -James "Logan" Howlett

Not that it's incredibly hard for a game to put me in my place, but King of Fighters '95 for the Saturn whips my ass like cattle. I can't even get past the first match, and on the EASIEST setting! I've beaten several Capcom fighters on normal, Virtua Fighter's 1 and 2, etc. Not. This. Game. Lord, I suck.

Actraiser 2 made me realize I can't be good at every game when I couldn't even complete the first stage.

Any Street Fighter game...as sad as it may sound. I've spent countless hours and even money back in the arcade days beating the hell out of opponents on Soul Blade thru the latest Soul Caliber game...I hold my own in Tekken and Mortal Kombat...but for some reason...I've always sucked...my entire life...at Street Fighter....

Doom. I can beat Battletoads, the original TMNT, and Ninja Gaiden on NES, but I'll be danged if I can get any further than 2 or 3 levels in when I play Doom. And that's on the low difficulty settings...

I'm terrible at the original arcade version of Spy Hunter, even though I'm pretty good at most classic games.

Rush'n Attack (Did I spell that correctly?) kicked my ASS when I was a kid. I haven't played it since I was like 10, so I have no idea whether or not it's actually difficult or not for an adult player.

I think a lot of old NES games pwned me. Kid Icarus took me forever to get past stage 1-3, original Metroid was a total PITA with it's lack of viewable map (thank god for Nintendo power maps or I woulda never beat that game), and Megaman 1's stupid rock boss until I learned the cheap-o pause/un-pause trick (still can't beat that a-hole without cheating).

Yep, my brothers and sisters and I loved to play Battletoads for the NES, but we never could get even halfway throught the game. Then I got a Game Genie, and thanks to stage select and unlimited lives we still couldn't beat the game. Gonna try again sometime this year. Pray for me that I don't lose my sanity. (Also, I've lost my Game Genie, so I don't know what I'm going to do.)

Also for the SNES, I recently picked up a copy of Super Ghouls and Ghosts and my brother and I had a 4-hour marathon, and we never could even get to the end of the first level! Maybe we'll try again sometime soon, but I don't know...

Space Hulk on the Saturn made a gibbering wimp outta me. I can't even get past the first few enemies in that monster. Also, Batman Returns on the Genesis... Needlessly hard.

On the first Nes Ninja Gaiden I could get thru to the last boss but I couldn't even beat his first form. And speaking of Ninja Gaiden, the original Xbox version was very hard. It took me a while before I beat the first boss. I never beat the second boss, mainly because of all his dumb ass minions distracting me.

Snake, Rattle and Roll was nearly impossible for us even with unlimited lives on a Game Genie. That game was mean.

I'm pretty awful when it comes to multiplayer games (especially fighting), but sometimes it's hard to tell whether it's a lack of skill on my part or an I-do-nothing-but-play-this-game-all-day-erry-day level of skill on the opponent's part. Probably a bit of both. Even though I'm a fan of shmups and they can be really addictive, I'm pretty bad at even some of the "easier" ones like Gokujou Parodius on the SFC, but then I tend to assume most people are, since it seems like such an obscure genre.

As for everything else, the only specific example I can give without feeling like an idiot isn't a classic game, but Donkey Kong Country Returns really put me in my place. Though, the best thing about trial and error is how rewarding it feels in the end.

Robowarrior / Bomber King (NES) puts a lot of gamers in their place. The key is you can't die, for the most part you have to complete the game on a single life. This is because when you die and continue you lose half of all your items in inventory and a big part of the game is building your arsenal and energy reserves. On my most recent playthrough I died within two periods of the end of the game but was okay (barely) because my item reserves were packed prior to my mistake.

I hope one day it shows up on Game Center CX since:

    1. It's a Hudson game.
    2. Spin-off of the Bomberman series (and really how the single player mode in all Bomberman games should have been done).
    3. The most impressive boss is a giant flame-shooting, lighting-summoning serpent that will be mistaken for a dragon - and he shows up in the first third of the game.

The NES Megaman games. For some reason I can't fathom, I completely suck at them. It's annoying considering how popular they are.

I can only think it's because I didn't have them as a child, unlike Mario & Sonic, so I never spent hours playing them and these days I don't have the patience to do so.

Try starting with Mega Man 2. It's the gateway drug for many classic Mega Man fans.

Picked up a copy of Adventure Island for the NES at Goodwill last week.

It`s been nearly 18 years since I last played it and suffice it to say,I got my ass kicked in it.
