I have a unit with no power adapter, I see some generic ones on ebay but I'm afraid to get one.

The TG16 has a 7805 voltage regulator so if its within 7-12v you should be fine.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?
Sega Master System or Genesis/Megadrive model 1, units work and are dirt cheap too.

The ratings for it are 10.5VDC 730mA center negative polarity. As APE992 said, anything in the 7-12v range should work but you also want to make sure it's at least 730mA or greater. Some cheaper power supplies may not have a high enough current rating(a little less might be ok, I'm not entirely sure how much current it pulls but better safe than sorry). And be sure to check that the polarity is correct. Not sure if the TG-16 has any sorts of voltage protection but wrong polarity is a big cause of frying...well...pretty much anything.
