Default Sega Genesis Model 2 problem

So I just bought a Sega Genesis model 2 from one of my friends and after hooking up to the TV through a coaxial (along with the power source), the screen was just black, totally silent with the exception of some faint flickering sounds. So after trouble shooting a couple of times, I got it to work a few times, playing Sonic 2 and what not. However, most times I try it, it still won't work, unless I keep on trying. Has any of you had this problem happen to you? Is it the coaxial cable? or is it the Genesis itself?

Could be the RF cable is going bad. Do you need to fiddle with the power cable to get it working? If so then that means the solder joints on it are probably cracked and need to re-flowed.

Nope, all I do is putting in different Genesis games in, and pressing start. Do you think the Genesis itself is broken?

If the screen goes black every time you turn on the power the console is fine. You might try blowing into the cartridge and Genesis cart slot to see if that works. Probably just needs cleaning on both ends and possibly retensioning of the cart slot.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?

I've been blowing in the carts from the start with minimal success, and I just recently cleaned up on of the cartridges with rubbing alcohol,
i don't think it did anything.

    *Update*

I think I'm getting it to work fine now, but to whats a good way to clean the port on the inside of the Genesis? I feel like that was just dirty. Should I just give a blow or should I use a method like Rubbing alcohol.
