Which system to get next?

I'm looking at acquiring a new system now that I can ebay all the trade bait I don't want. If I went with my guts instead of my brain, I'd be buying a PC-FX. However I think my guts need to be cut off from my undecided brain so I'll leave it to the good people here.

I have a 5200, Intellivision, Odyssey2, NES, SMS, TG-16 w/CD system, Sega CDX, SNES, Dreamcast, GCN, PS2. I'm selling my XBOX, and I'm not looking at handhelds at the moment. I'm modding my TG-16 to play PC Engine games soon, so I'm not looking at a PC Engine either.

This leaves me with: 7800, Colecovision, C64, Jaguar, 3D0, PC-FX, Vectrex... I know there are others but I can't think of any that interest me right now.

So, what do you all think?

7800 wouldn't be a bad choice. i have had one for awhile and it's still great. go xenophobe......

Definitely go for a Coleco or a Vectrex. They are both must-own systems if you are into classic gaming.

I agree with the Vectrex. It's unlike any other classic system, the hombrew scene is great, and it's pretty easy to pick up loose carts or just invest $70 for the Multicart

Wait, what? The C64 was, and still is godly! Perhaps I'm missing something as to why someone would rather get a Colecovision than a C64?

I mean, I've heard that the Colecovision is a must-have for classicgamers, and that the Vectrex was unique and has a great homebrew community...

However, the C64 is also a must-have for a classicgamer. In addition to having a great homebrew community (one that puts pretty much every other classic console to shame) it also has some of the best games ever made, is technologically superior, and is more versatile.

While the Colecovision and Vectrex are great classic gaming consoles, the C64 is in a class all its own... unbelievable!

Personally, I would go with the 3DO. I think the 3DO was way, way ahead of it's time when it first hit the scene in '93. It has alot of great games that are exclusive to it.

Plus the 3DO just has it's own little flavor to it, that is so different than any other console.

The only downside to it, is that the 3DO still comands some big buckerinos. On Ebay a good 3DO package with about 10 games with 4 or 5 of those being games that you would actually want, would go for like $55.00 or more.

Not exactly dirt cheap.

Jaguar, man, Jaguar! The last Atari system and home to the cool 2000 updates of their classic games. Get the JAG with these games as a core list:

-Tempest 2000
-Defender 2000
-Missle Command 3D
-Aliens vs. Predator
-Breakout 2000 (harder to find)

There are some other worthwhile games too, but I'd go for the revamped Atari classics first.

very unimpressed. the only great RPG so far is KotOR and I hate star wars with a pasison unbridled. I haven't turned the system on in six months except to test it and I have no second thoughts about selling it. That usually means that I truly won't miss the system.

i'd say the vectrex, if you can splurge for the multicart, otherwise building a collection of games is costly. the vectrex is cool and it really impresses folks. and unlike the 3-Do and jaguar the games still look good, no offfense fanboys but those systems have aged rather poorly...oh and if you have any thoughts of say trading that X-box, its toward the top of my own personal get list

PC-FX gets my vote. Although I don't see anyone that can't read Japanese (or has a Japanese girlfriend) getting much playing time out of it.

I voted the C64 as well. Not because I think it is "better" than the others listed, but because I think it is an experience every gamer should have had. I can honestly say that I had the more fun with this little brown computer than anything else in the my entire history of game playing. So many great games, great times, BBS days, just a world of fun...way before anybody knew what the internet was. The c64 WAS our internet! But, now that has all passed, but there are still tons of great games. And if you get ahold of a c64 1200 or 2400 baud modem and know someone else with the same setup, there WERE online games to boot. I played my first "online" game on this computer. It was an amazing experience at the time. Anyway, if you aren't into getting disks, there's a HUGE amount of carts that were made here and in Europe, and all you need is a c64 and a joystick to play em!

You can hook it up to your TV with a standard RF switch.

And you can probably guess that I voted for the C64 as well. Colecovision would be my second choice.

You can use rf (tv switchbox) or you can grab a 5-pin din monitor plug to hook the system directly to your tv's a/v jacks. I prefer the latter as the video and audio will be nice and clear.
