Default NES proto players. Emulator or Homemade cart

When it comes to the NES which do you prefer?

Is is worth the time and energy to make your own cart?
Is an emulator that close to the real thing that it doesn't matter?

I have a few homemade carts (i.e. Raisins), but I honestly don't prefer either method of playing the game. Emulators are accurate enough these days to where I'd nearly prefer playing the game on my computer, simply because I have better speakers there than on my television!

For the most part, I like having carts, as it's easier to show it off to friends in the living room on the television. But if it's just me, I don't really care. The game "feels" the same either way.

Well, not EXACTLY. I still, duh, prefer the television, but the difference in feel versus the time, energy, and/or money required to make carts usually means it's not worth the effort.

...and then there's the Dr. PC Jr.

Cart... IMO playing an old video game on the computer with a non-original controller just doesn't do anything for me... I think part of the effect in playing an old game is the memories of sitting in front of a TV with the rectangular controller in your hand, playing what is fun because of the game, instead of the looks. Plus, making the cart is fun . I guess I could make a controller adapter and TV out on my PC...

There's nothing like playing an unreleased NES game on a real TV, but the whole cart making process is not for the unexperienced, and a pain in the ass.... get a Dr. PC Jr. if you can
