Hey, I don't mean for this to turn into a threadjack, but with respect to Wired magazine, does anybody know what ever happened to Van Burnham? For anyone who attended CGE back in 1999 or 2000, Ms. Burnham wrote for Wired and had clearly established herself as both the belle of CGE and retrogaming in general a few years back with her book Escape From Supercade.

As a promotion for the book, she had commissioned one hundred 2600 carts which contained a new game possessing the same name of the book. Twenty-six of the carts were offered as door prizes at CGE 2000 (I was one of the "winners"). Delays in manufacturing kept holding back the release of the carts. Van's website, albeit outdated, is still up and running and promising these carts to the attendess. But the last I heard was that the developers of the game just wound up releasing the rom for free, and the promised promotional carts never materialized. Meanwhile, Van Burnham appears to have fallen off the face of the earth.

You can go ahead and accuse me of whining about not getting freebies, but it still burns me (so to speak) somewhat that Ms. Burnham, in light of the carts never seeing the light of day, never offered any sort of alternative promotional item to the winners of the drawing, nor has she ever, to my knowledge, deigned to offer an explanation or even an apology for leaving everybody high and dry.

And for the record, I did buy a copy of the book Escape From Supercade at full list price.

    (/end grumble)

Van Burnham got married to Seamus Blackley (of XBox fame). Dunno if she was at E3 this year but perhaps she's too busy helping out with Capital Entertainment Group?

I know yours came first but since it's gone off-topic this is the one I'm going to lock.

    Here's the other thread:
