    22. Ys III - Genesis

This was my first time completing the Genesis version of Ys III. It's a decent port though I think I still like the SNES version better. I still haven't played the original version or the TurboGrafx-16 versions at all yet though.

    23. Crusader of Centy - Genesis

This was my first time playing this one. It's kind of like Zelda in a few ways, except it focuses on recruiting animal friends that each give you a special ability rather than going after different items/weapons.

    24. Fantastic Dizzy - Genesis

I've finally completed this Genesis version after already mastering both NES versions. On this run I only lost one life and it was during the climb in the final tower! This is a fun game where you look for items to use to get through areas that have things blocking your way. You have to be smart about bringing certain items with you to be as time efficient as possible as you can only carry three at a time.

This is an interesting shmup. I think it hits that sweet spot of a stiff, but manageable difficulty level. Personally, I was impressed with the graphics on the game. Slowdown doesn't really happen until you get quite a few enemies on screen. The GAM(pods that rotate around your ship) is really cool and what sets this game apart. I really like how when it's activated it acts as a shield, or it can be flung like a boomerang into enemies, or expanded outward and back as an attack...and all the while you have to manage the charge of the GAM. The weapon powerup system is well done also. Whenever you blast the object to unleash the powerup, it will shuffle every few seconds to a different powerup, essentially letting you choose your favorite. The only bad thing is that I found myself getting suddenly bombarded by powerful enemies in the few seconds of waiting sometimes. So in a way it's like they intentionally put in some risk/reward element on waiting around for the right powerup. The music is kind of crappy. It constantly has that song by 2 Unlimited playing...the "are you ready for this?" one. I did 90s dance tunes, but it seems like this is on constant loop the first few levels and it doesn't sound all that great. It really tests your nerves after a while, but when I was into the game I didn't notice as much.

Definitely not my first time around with this game. I'm on a family vacation and brought along my SNES and some co-op games to play with my brother. We went through this one a few times the other day. It just never gets old.

Pretty short, but fun. A decent remake of a game I didn't get to play much of back in the day. I feel that it could due with less chatter and more gameplay, but that's true of a lot of remakes these days. Do recommend.

    30. Final Fantasy II - SNES

Yay Final Fantasy IV's original US release has finally been cleared on the actual system with no cheats, frameskip or savestates. It was a lot easier than the first three Final Fantasy games for NES & Famicom, although I do know this US version was based on Japan's Easy Type version of the game.

Fun little game that I picked up last week. Cool music and some nice graphics in some places, specifically the cityscape level. I really liked how they used scaling in some parts so that you see a giant spaceship or object slowly approach from the background as you pass through the level. Challenging, but not overly so once you figure out the weapons and weapon formations.

Not bad. Has that same messy overworld as LEGO Lord of the Rings. I wouldn't mind it as much if it didn't cause my system to make very worrisome noises.

Never thought I'd beat this one. Strangely enough, I haven't poured tons of time into it like I did Macross, but when I played it tonight it suddenly didn't feel that hard any more. I got a sense after my first game that I'd come close. Second game I was fairly close and could smell victory. Third time I finally completed it. It's a solid shmup that I personally enjoy. Not much slowdown in the game, which is impressive for such an early SNES game. Perhaps it's because the graphics aren't the most ambitious, but they have a nice look to them and get the job done. Cool tunes as well. Props to it being co-op as well.
