Default Is it impossible to find a PS4 in North America?

My buddy is planning to buy one tomorrow, and we cannot find a single department store or website that actually sells them. Everyone, EVERYONE is sold out. His only option now is to shell out 500 something on Amazon or Ebay. He called Sony, and they told him that they were actually making more units for Japan then the US, due to the huge market there.

Is this true? And for real, we just wanna find a damn system. Why is this so hard? Is our 400 bucks no good? Anyone have any suggestions here?

It would be just a regional thing. The Target near me in Seattle almost always has some in stock. The Best Buy downstairs from it as well. Right now at Target only the Wii U was out of stock.

Yea, it's strange. We live in Connecticut, and we called every Best Buy in the state, they have zero PS4's, every Target, every Walmart, every major department store, and every single one is out of PS4's.
All their websites are out of PS4's also.

Even the Sony website is out. We're not getting Xbone'd, here.

Same here, I see them all the time at many Target stores near me. That's why I'm amazed when people are unable to locate them and assume they are flying off the shelves everywhere.

Isn't supply for all of the new consoles relatively large. Not like back when the Nintendo Wii or the Playstation 2 were released and they were still hard to come by a year or so later

Xbox One's don't seem to be disappearing, though, only the PS4's. I know it's selling much better but why is the PS4 just nowhere? We called every EVERY department store in CT. We had Best Buy look up which locations would have them thru their database, no one has a single PS4. At a local Gamestop, they actually answer the phone with, "Gamestop, we have Xbox One", prolly cuz they just aren't selling. I remember older consoles being sold out like the Ps2, but how could no one in the whole state not have one, except for resellers?

Amazon had a bunch of PS4 consoles in stock Monday and into Tuesday of this week. It's hard to find them in stores simply because they sell very quickly. I would expect that supply will improve and demand will slow in the next few months as the Japanese launch has now happened and supply should be normalizing in all regions.

I can't speak for the country but in my town anytime I hit retail I see little to no PS4s but I see a crap load of stacked Ones all over. Just today the PS4 was picked over at Costco and the PS3s were getting eyed by someone (the super slim Uncharted box) and side by side was the One, full pallet of probably a 100 of them untouched.

Tell him to order one from Amazon. They've had them in stock for weeks now.

Actually now that I think of it, it might be better to order one online from another state besides your own because then sales tax is replaced by shipping cost which is sometimes not as much as the tax would be.

For some odd reason, GameStop seems to have a more preferential treatment in getting large quantities of the console than in any other store. Sears only gets like 2-3 every month, while GameStop seems to be getting them constantly, as they are always available (at least from what I can tell). At work we get calls nearly daily for the console, but the darn thing arrives sporadically. Yet we have plenty of Xbox 360, but rarely does anyone request one. I think we have sold like 5 since it was launched, and around 100 or so PS4's.

I just went back to Target today. They have no Wii U's in stock, plenty of Xbox One's and more PS4's than they could fit in their case for it so they put an extra PS4 into an auxiliary display case on the other side of where the Wii U goes. Oh and PS Vita WiFi model on sale for $169 instead of $199.

Sort of. They just recently launched in Japan, so it's entirely possible that as of late they've been geared more towards making Japanese units, but if so that will subside eventually. Japan is a big market, but not so big as to outshadow the US market.

I remembered this thread when I was in Target yesterday. I didn't see any PS4 systems in stock but I did see 5 Xbox One units. I was in a couple of Gamestop locations yesterday but didn't think to check their stock.

I was trying to get a Wii U locally with no luck last week, so I ordered one on eBay (got it Saturday). Are their sales climbing? Hope so, all the negative news surrounding its numbers was depressing.
