hmm, so only .hack rebirth came in a box? its weird how they decide what games deserve a slip cover / box. why did wild arms 5 get one and not 3 or 4?

The only reason that version of .hack came in a box is that the LE version included an action figure. There was also a regular version with no box or slip cover.
