Default New "For the Gamer" Display at Barnes & Noble

Beginning today and lasting through the holidays, each of the 616 Barnes & Noble locations has a "For the Gamer" end-cap display.

You can find a variety of new offerings, including my "100 Greatest" book:

    http://www.brettweisswords.com/2014/...nes-noble.html

That Barnes & Noble would carry such a book, the bulk of which consists of games for the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, ColecoVision, etc., is a nice illustration of just how mainstream retro gaming has become. The new Flashback consoles are a great indicator as well. As far as I'm concerned, this is a good thing.

It must be very cool to see your own book in a big chain book store. Congrats!

It's also exciting that any book contains info on the 7800. Even when it was released, I don't know of any books that had content on it.

    Yes, very much so!

My second book contains encyclopedia-style entries on every 7800 cartridge:

My local B&N didn't have one up.
Asked manager about it. Apparently managers are allowed to decide if a particular display or promotion is worth endorsing.
He said that it looked like a waste of space and wasn't going to bother until it was proven otherwise.

Nah, I'm fine with his decision.
If I want it, I'll find it either on Kindle for a 1/10th of the store price or just hit up a torrenting site.

Harassing a manager who knows his regular business because you dont agree isnt really cool. JSoup is right, those books he puts out with that general knowledge on it are very expensive for whats there, so get the kindle version for a 1/10 of the cost.

You're fucked up. The author of the book is here promoting it, trying to make a buck off of his book, and you insult him by threatening to illegally download it from a torrent site that won't help him out at all. He's not a large corporation, just a guy trying to make a living with his passion that is similar to yours. I met the guy in person at CGE 2014 and bought his book. He's a really nice guy with a great book. Show some respect.

    Welcome to the internet.
If it makes you feel any better, the likelihood that I'd do either thing is pretty low. From the reviews I've seen, the book is interesting, but nothing I'm jumping for at the moment. Very much on my black friday/holiday sale list.

Meh. Until B&N expands to rural locations, it doesn't affect me. Not trekking across a ferry boat to pay retail price for books.
    Lum fan.

Ferry ride eh? I won't trek about 5mi from here to pay full blown retail or higher. I wont' go into a B&N unless I kind of am forced to being with my wife who likes going into that place for magazines. I really wish they had died and not Borders, they sold under sticker price and did weekly coupons, it was like a slice of online pricing without the wait.

Sadly, that's part of what caused Borders to die.
That and, you know, not paying the bills.

Perhaps they would have if I was at the help desk or something.
My account of events is missing some context. The manager is a friend and I happened to run into him after remembering this topic. He knows that if I want to buy a book, it's not going to be there, it'll be via Amazon or a used shop.

You don't actually believe that he's insulted, do you? Would you think he was insulted if someone mentioned purchasing it second hand, or not at all? He makes as much that way, too. I'd wager the author knows the ropes online and isn't getting bent out of shape.
