Default Hyperkin SupaBoy died... Pokefami DX discontinued... what to buy?

My brother's SupaBoy LCD crapped out and I can't find a replacement. Bought a parts unit off ebay but the insides were totally different... I give up.

Read the whole 13 page thread on the SupaBoy and it seems everyone gravitated to the Pokefami DX as it was a better unit.

Unfortunately it seems those are discontinued now.

Did anyone ever come out with a portable SNES that fixed the issues everyone griped about?

The pokefami is garbage, not sure why someone would gravitate to it.

The supaboy if you got a parts one they did have 2 revisions of the system, so that's probably your problem and the 2nd one is far more stable and better off.

Also if you care about NES in portability keep an eye out on this in the future.

There is this chinese one which is amazing now you should take a peek at:

    The Portable Famicom Subor SB-Z12.

There have been branded images online with the hyperkin logo over where the chinese is below the screen on that link, so they seem to have the rights, but no idea when they'll release it, but at least it will have a NES slot instead of a famicom one.

The Supaboy runs on 3.7v so unfortunately you can't easily replace the screen with an eBay car backup screen, which won't run on anything less than 5v (5-12v range). You could do some crazy things with voltage regulators but probably not worth the effort, so buying parts systems like you did is really the only choice to fix (with just the 2 different revisions the next one you'd buy would automatically match one of them lol).

I don't have any suggestions for a different clone portable as I find they are all in you-get-what-you-pay-for category, but those supaboy parts arent a complete loss and if you toss em up here or at modretro someone would definitely snatch them up and make something crazy with it in turn for you to have a starting fund for another, hopefully better built clone.

Why is the Poke Fami DX garbage? It's a fantastic portable SNES, it has excellent compatibility, nice build quality, a decent screen and it's not massively oversized like the SupaBoy. The only reason it can't play SA-1 coprocessor games is it has no CIC installed, which is an easy fix for the technically inclined. The D-pad not pivoting can also be fixed with little effort.

Since it's discontinued now, just get a Retro Duo Portable V2. It's really just a portable SNES, they call it Duo because they bundle a giant NES converter with it, which is really unnecessary when you can just get a FC Mobile II. The RDP V2 improves on every aspect of the RDP V1 and the Poke Fami DX. Its best feature is the inclusion of a CIC for SA-1 games and anything else that has advanced security checks.
