    Default Master of Monsters

So recently I found the PS1 game Master of Monsters: Disciples of Gaia for $14 and picked it up. As a kid I had rented the Genesis original but not understood it, but now I barely remember anything about the Genesis one except that it involved occupying towers.

So far I've only played Disciples of Gaia's tutorial mission but I'm liking the gameplay. There's a bit of lagginess whenever it loads up certain animations but I can live with it. My question then is: if I like this, would I also enjoy the Genesis original?

Secondary question: Is the Saturn game the same as the PS1 game, or is it a completely different game?

Saturn one is the same AFAIK, maybe better/worse graphics. This is going on my copy of the Japanese version I played for 5 minutes 20 years ago.

If you enjoy this you would probably like the Genesis original. Everyone I spoke with hated it for that reason, they loved the Genesis version and hated the PS sequel due to all the unnecessary changes. The original is basically the same minus some useless shit found in the sequel (confusing day/night cycle, useless monster combining, horrid load times). One huge difference is that in the original your master is confined to the spaces around your main base; you can't move him all over the map, grinding him into a game-breaking powerhouse.

Also, since you can't move your master you won't ever level him up to 99 and crash the game like in the PS version :/

I just found out how big this franchise is (its still cult-level, but in Japan there's like 10-15 installments whereas in America there's like two). It makes me wish I could read Japanese and/or had a PC-9801 to play the four on that system.

Also, lately what is it with me playing games where you summon monsters to fight an enemy's summoned monsters?

Does anyone know where I can find a PDF of the manual for the Sega Genesis MoM? I got the actual game today.

I'd also be willing to buy a repro of said manual.
