    Default Hanafuda?

Wow, talk about your classic gaming.

Just curious if anyone here happens to have a set of hanafuda cards that Nintendo used to make a hundred years back or so, before they did video games. Seems like that might be an interesting piece for a collection.

I bet hanafuda that old aren't going to be found on Yahoo Japan that much, and of course Nintendo went by another name back then. If I ever see a set I'd try to get it, depending on the price.

Well, anything Nintendo related is quite collectible in Japan.
Disk System "memorabilia" generally sells very high here... unfortunately.

    Makes sense.

...actually, if it was complete and in good shape...ow, my brain just hurts thinking about how much it must be worth. I see the most retarded animation cels from some movie version of Lupin the 3rd and sellers want over 450,000 yen for them. Half that much for a couple good (eh) Galaxy Express 999 cels...and those got bids, too. Jeez.

If a pack of cards like this is making over 8,800 yen, I hate to think what original stuff must be.

Here's where the language barrier comes into play.

I know dick about cels, but here's my attempt at it.
1: It's from Cagliostro's Castle, and cels from a Miyazaki film can't be cheap... especially ones from 20+ years ago that feature a long-lived Japanese favorite. It's also comes with a "Keraris" background...whatever the hell that is. He also mentions it's his last of the sort.

2: The Ghost in the Shell cards - signed directly by Masamune Shirou... a nice little collectible to have I'd say. I suspect they'll go higher.

Maybe I should hold some auction consultation services. Simply explain the items for a fee.

My roomate has a set of Nintendo Hanafuda cards. Like all card games it is nearly impossible to play using written instructions, so I will have to wait until I meet someone who knows how to play. From what I understand of it, it seems similar to Mahjhong.

...I love stuff that sucks ._.

So was it an error for that first link to be grouped in the "Lupin the 3rd" category?

That's pretty cool. I looked for some once on eBay. Just out of curiosity, of course. I figured anything I found would be too expensive to actually bid on. But I didn't find anything. Just new sets of cards.

What? I thought they were always "Nintendo". Where'd you hear that they had a name change?

I mean, the name literally means something like "we leave our luck to heaven" or something, right? Sounds like it was MADE for a card-making company to me...

    "Leave luck to heaven"

And I wondered about that too. What was there original name then?

No, it's been changed many times over the years.

I'm sort of peeved that people don't feel that looking on Google or maybe even Nintendo's own site is worthwhile, and just throw down a question instead of taking the time to do it. Sorry Slapdash, but it's true. Oh well, I'm feeling generous today.

    Nintendo.com -> Corporate -> Company History.

Gee, thanks oh mighty one. Thine backhanded generosity overwhelms me...

Isn't the point of a message board for people to discuss things and ask questions about things they don't know?

Anyhow, there you go. Companies like that ususally have a Company History page up on their Corporate page. Sorry if it was terribly backhanded, but you know, it wasn't terribly hard to find. Please...just as a favor...do try out Google every once in a while

    Not a unique phenomenon though.
