Default My import collection began today

Today I recieved in the mail the start of my import collection. I won some Super Famicom games from this guy on ebay, this is what I got:

    Street Fighter II
    Street Fighter II Turbo
    Super Street Fight II
    Super Donkey Kong

All games come with good condition boxes, but no manuals. All of those came to $14 shipped. I think I did ok. I'm pretty pumped, the boxes alone look cooler than the US versions. So I'll probably be spending some more time around this forum now.

I do have a question though...is it hard to find manuals for import games? I never see them on ebay, unless the game is being sold complete.

I don't mean to hate, but out of curiosity why exactly did you pick up these titles? My personal idealology with imports is to go for games which either haven't been released here or have some special feature which makes them worth importing?

The whole Japanese look, feel and layout of boxes and especially manuals are usually far better than their US counterparts. I've seen some great Japanese box art utterly ignored, ruined or mutilated in favour of abominations of pictures that get used on US boxes (the original SF2 for SNES springs to mind here immediately, as does Mobile Light Force 2 and Disaster Report).

In SF2 case also, there is the fact you'll get to play the game with the characters named as they should be: the boxer is M.Bison, the masked warrior is Balrog and el evil dude is Vega...

Drex, it's virtually impossible to get manuals for imports, at least in my experience. I don't know ANYONE who sells manuals. What I've taken to doing is buying a second copy of the game I have that's missing a manual, and then selling the one that's incomplete and letting someone else suffer

That's not a bad buy for $14....I do have to say I pretty much only buy games that never came out in the US (even though the Jp games almost always have better art). I don't see the point in buying a Jp duplicate of a game I can get in the US myself. But if you enjoy em, go for it!

Here's how I'm looking at the situation now. I'm a very big fan of nintendo systems and I also think that Jap boxes are cooler than US ones. So I'm actually going to try and match up my import collection with my US games. If not matching up exactly, I might just try and get my favorites. I'm probably only going to be buying for the NES and SNES as they are my two favorite systems. SInce I only buy games that I like and am not trying for complete collections, this is also a good way to extend my passion for collecting. Obviously seems strange to you guys, but I think it'll be interesting.

It's definitely a new take on importing, but I can't say I don't like the idea! In fact, if you get a spare Jp Rock N Roll Racing, I'd be interested in it

Funny that, I got that on JPN just recently

It's completely untranslated, basically just the US version in a different shaped case with a Japanese manual. I can do a scan, but as my hosting has gone tits up again, have no where to host it to show you...

Thanks, but I've actually seen it. I just want it for the alternate cover art...it's one of my favorite SNES games!

I got it because my brother lost our US copy whilst at university

Can't complain, only cost me $12 complete and minty fresh

To them, maybe, but this is the sort of thing I've been doing for some time now

I have been picking up a few Megadrive games just for their superior box art. Arcus Odyssey and El Viento are two that are nice. Sometimes Jpn games have extras that the US counterpart doesn't. For instance I picked up complete copies of Shining Force 1 and 2 just because they came with cool maps.

I like El Viento's cover art...the game itself, now that's horrid. Nothing I especially like about it. Maybe I'll pick up a copy someday for the nice cover but eh...

I'd give it a mediocre. There are definitely worse games for the Mega Drive... although those game sare usually $1, not $50.

Fine, but I gotta say: if I saw something that looked like the Annet's ingame sprite running through my backyard, I'd hit it with a rake. Probably explains why all those Dick Tracy stunt doubles were trying to off'er, too.
