    Default Most $$$ You've Ever Put in a Coin-op?

While playing some old favorites on MAME, I realized that back in the 80's these games consumed huge amounts of my quarters. Thanks to MAME, I can now put in a thousand credits if I want to, and go through the game without any financial worries. Yet, I can't help but remember the many dollars in quarters and tokens that I pumped into the slots of my favorite coin-ops.

During one particular trip to the arcade, I spent $5+ on Golden Axe II: The Revenge of Death Adder. I just had to beat that game and no amount of quarters was going to keep me from doing it.

I still peep into arcades where people pump the slots of Capcom fighting games with a steady flow of money. I once saw a line of people waiting for the sticks of Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

What's the most you've ever spent on a single coin-op game in one visit to an arcade?

when mortal kombat 2 was new, one day my mom dropped me off at the arcade on her way to work, and picked me up after. so i spent 8 or 9 hours playin mostly mk2 that day. dunno how much money that was.

another time i put in about 5 bucks to beat the simpsons arcade game.

Definitely the $5.25 and up crowd. Dragon's Lair, Super Don Qixote, Punch Out!!, Major Havoc, Star Wars, Tapper... so many more ALL took at least $5.25 (each) on any given night. They didn't all take <$5 on the same night, but like, $5.25 might have been spent on Punch Out!! in a night with another dollar or so being spread around to other games. The next trip might have spent <$5 on DL instead, etc.

yor poll is confusing.. I thought it ment How much did the most expensive coin-op cost you? The most I've ever put in a game is 2 quarters.. I've never played a game that too 75 cents or had a dollar slot.

I can easily sink more than $10 into a good pinball table. I'm sure I've done that with High Speed, South Park and Haunted House. There are others, but I can't remember them.

I know I spent about $6 playing Metal Slug at a Pizza Hut a year or so ago. (Of all places!)

Also, it's skewed by the fact that Gameworks used to have a "pay $10 and play all night" kind of thing. If I was using actual money, I know I've spent far more than $10 whipping people's asses at Hydro Thunder (8 linked cabinets! Too cool! I used to rule that game!), Crazy Taxi, Gauntlet, and House of the Dead 2. Good times.

On a Disney World trip Hiding_in_the_wall and myself must have put 25 bucks each into Gauntlet Legends. There was nothing else to do at night. Good thing Gauntlet 2 was not there or we would have pumped in 50 each.

There are at least 15 cabinets that have seen $10 in quarters from me in a pop. The high value on this poll isn't HIGH ENOUGH! And I'm not at all surprised it's fairly unanimous so far (except for the one "confused" entry).

I concur re the high value not being high enough. Maybe it should be "$20 or more". I mean, if you're not very good at House of the Dead, and you're paying $0.75 per credit, and you want to see the end, well...

    You people scare me

I assumed no one would go past $10.00, but geez, you people have given me a whole new outlook on coin-op comsumption

$20.00 and beyond? I'll be damned if you people didn't have the deepest pockets back then! I was lucky to get ten bucks for my coin-op habit.

Some friends and I developed a tournament for Daytona USA where everyone got to qualify, then race each in heat races and then race each other in brackets type format. There was a few places that had four or more machines linked together so we always had a place to go. A roll of quarters ($10) was all you needed, unless you needed some alcohol too. We even had a bar owner give us $100 in free bar tab if we would give him a copy of how we did everything so he could have his own tournament.

I spent about $20 on "911 Police". It's basically a shooting game which has ultrasonic sensors to determine if you duck right or left to take cover. It was the first time I had ever seen the game and figured in I didn't beat it then, that the sensors would be broken due to some kid hanging on it. Definately worth the money, although my legs were sore the next day.

I once pumped about 5.00 bucks into a simpsons arcade game, and got bored with it and quit.
Somebody once told me to get a life.

I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.

Double Dragon ate at least $30 of my money, and the same of my buddy's. We were about 19 I think. Old enough to have some money to blow.

    But it was awesome!

When I was a kid, 2 bucks max. My allowance was 2 bucks, and it belonged to the wizard's castle before I even had it in my hands.

I've easily spent 5-8 bucks on both Street FIghter 3: 3rd Strike and King of Fighters 98 at the local arcade. And considering KOF is only a quarter

I can easily spend 5 bucks in an hour on a Dance Dance Revolution machine. And it's only 50 cents where I'm at (There are some ripoff arcades in California where it's 4 BUCKS A GAME!)

I voted for $1-$1.50 and I meant it!

If a game costs more than one quarter, I'm only playing it once.

Occasionally I've spent a dollar or so on Golden Axe or Gauntlet, but that's it.

Hey, I'm not saying that I've dumped $20 or more into a coin-op at a go, but I can see it happening these days, what with a credit costing $1+ for some games. ($4/credit for DDR? Holy moley!) I think I probably drained about $10 into HOTD to see the end. I think EVERY game should produce a wolf howl when you dump a quarter into it!
