Default If you find a rare game, cheap, and the labels messed up....

say, maybe a little ripped, discolored, rough around the edges or in worst case scenario, ripped halfway off, what do you do?

Do you buy it or pass on it?

Just wondering, I've never passed one up, I picked up Stack-Up for NES and it was a little rough and showing some white around the edges of the label...paid 2.99...so if you guys find a rare game and its kinda messed up what do you do?

If we are talking Stadium Events with a half torn label for $4.99? Hell yeah!

Stadium Events with a half torn label for $50? Hell no!

For cheap? Hell yeah. If I don't have it, it'll sit in my collection until I find a better copy. Then when I do it goes on sale and if it's really "that" rare it should pick up atleast a few more bucks then what it was paid for...

It's amazing, but a RARE game with a torn label will still go for big bucks on Ebay.
You're probably looking at 15 % less than a good label. So a $50 game will still go for$40 or more.
I know it's crazy but it's true. When you get caught between the moon and New York City....... aaahhhh sorry.

I saw a Dragon Warrior cart that was beat to hell, dirty, and cracked slightly on the bottom at a Gamestop for $1.99 a few weeks ago.

Sorry, but I had to pass.
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.

I hope you're referring to Dragon Warriors II, III, or IV.

The only factor that matters over a rare, yet roughed-up game is the price. The game could be missing a label, be worth $1.99, and I'd still buy it if they said it was a copy of... let's say, Castlevania 3. If I pop it in my NES and find that I'm playing Rocky and Bullwinkle, then I'd think of shoving this crappy game down his throat, but I wouldn't actually do that, because all I lost were two dollars. So, if the price was right, then it's a deal.

I love games in perfect shape as does everybody. But if it is pretty rare
and cheap, I think I would buy it.

In reference to Dragon Warrior, that was a comment on the shoddy condition, not the rarity. As far as I'm concerned, the store shouldn't have even let the person trade the thing in. However, if it looked better, I would have bought it because I don't have it.

Anyway, I'm sure you guys can tell that I'm not the NES expert here, nor do I assume that I am...didn't mean to get anybody's undies in a bunch. I've learned a lot from you guys as of late. Also, I don't consider myself a collector as much as I am a gamer, either. Just an NES player and fan...

At this point, I don't have much of an idea about what's rare for NES other than the oddball stuff you guys comment on often (Sachen, Aladdin Deck Enhancer, etc.). When I scrounge up enough pocket change (I'm a grad student) and stop buying so damn many games, I will buy myself a DP Guide.

You know, I saw a loose cart of Super Metroid on Ebay just the other day, that looked like it had been ran over with a car! The thing had a big crack in it. The guy that was selling it, said, "Yes, this cart does have a huge crack in it, but it plays fine!".

Well, I think the auction ended with that guy getting like $13 for it, plust $4 for shipping. Something like that.

I've bought games that were KNOWN TO NOT WORK, just so I could have it.

Yeah, it was virtually free, but not quite

And if you find a stadium events with a halftorn label for under $50, send me an e-mail, I'll buy it from you. My goal is to have one of every cart game in the U.S.. After that, THEN I'll worry about the labels.

Quantity over quality, that's my collecting motto I suppose I'm always looking for a better label, but for rare games, just HAVING it is enough for me.

Hmmm, My local gamestop will basically take in ANY cartridge. The lable could be completely missing, someone's name could be written on the side of the cart with dog do do and they'd still take it in.

And theres allways the rare chance you find a non working cart in perfect condition, then just combine the two and have a perfect cart at alow price.

I saw a SNES Fun n' Games the other day for $10, but it was in TERRIBLE shape. It looked like somebody spilled coffee on it, not to mention there was a blockbuster sticker. Hopefully I won't be kicking myself in the future for passing that up, seeing as it's really hard to find. It's like an R8, yet it still doesn't go for big bucks on ebay. Go figure.
