Default "Game Over" premieres March 10 on UPN

    Here's the press release:

UPN set a March 10 premiere date for its new computer-animated series Game Over, which will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT in Star Trek: Enterprise's old timeslot. Enterprise will move to a new timeslot, 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. UPN will air The Mullets from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Game Over, which the network describes as the first CGI series in prime time, follows the Smashenburn family in an alternate video-game universe of action heroes, monsters and cartoon characters inspired by popular video games. Voice stars include Patrick Warburton, Lucy Liu, E.G. Daily and Rachel Dratch.

Carsey-Werner-Mandabach produces Game Over, which was created by David Sacks (The Simpsons) and developed by David Goetsch (3rd Rock From the Sun), Sacks, Jason Venokur and Ross Venokur.

And here's the website for the show:

And a pic of the Smashenburn family:

I could only think of one positive thing to say about that:

At least I won't have to see Rachel Dratch's ugly fucking face. Thank god.

The new issue of WIRED magazine has some details about this show:

"... Donkey Kong and Pac-Man live in a retirement community ... Unlike the programs in TRON, the Smashenburns don't realize they're just pawns in a game..."

It was in the back part of EGM a couple of months ago where they made fun of the episodes.

I, for one, don't care for opinions: I'm fairly sure it's going to suck just by Sniderman's perfectly objective post! I'm curious about who is planning on watching it? That'd be interesting to know.

    Not me.

    I'll watch the first episode.

    Then judge it.

If it's crammed with Sony characters, I only have one thing to say. "Fuck you."

If it does have a nice assortment of characters from other systems, then by all means. Good. But I don't see big names like Mario and Sonic making a show there.

I too will probably watch the first episode and judge from there.

But really, it BETTER NOT interfere with my mXc watching, I can watch those episodes over and over again...

    BTW, Tim, great avatar!

I am having a bad feeling about this one though. Maybe it'll be good. But maybe it won't. I might as well watch old episodes of Captain N. I love that show. But can't find it anywhere. That and all the old Nintendo game shows. Mario cartoons, Mario Bros. Super Show.. (Not the fucking horrible "Club Mario")

As Queen once said, I want it all!

I'll personally be very, very surprised if we see ANY licensed characters in this show, at all, ever. The clearances and royalties would kill the budget for what already looks like a perfectly...expensive...show.

I know of three referred off-screen cameos and two on-screen cameos. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong are both mentioned as being in a retirement home in one episode and Lara Croft (never seen) is supposedly a rival of Mrs. Crashnburn (who is a tomb raider herself). And both Crash Bandicoot and TY the Tasmanian WhatevertheHell show up in another. As I heard it, the creators knew it'd be important for gamer-viewers to have some kind of actual "real life" characters, so they made an effort to secure those cameos as well as voices.

The last name of the family just screams crap. What they need to do is use shitty, shitty animation (and show they remember a time when nearly everything wasn't in 3D...) and buy and abuse as many licenses they can possibly get their hands on.

    Something like this:

The .. grumble... Crashenburn family (that name should only be allowed if the backstory on the father's family is his parents were the behind the scenes crew for the 3dO games of the same name)

    Where was I? Oh yeah.

The.. family are driving somewhere of little importance, and are stuck in a traffic jam. So they fast forward through a sideview of the cars, passing random cars with game characters in it, up to an accident, where Sonic and Mario have gotten into a head on collision. Both characters jump out, start screaming at each other (You fat italian shmuck/You stupid rat of a mascot), and then start beating the shit out of each with rings and shines. Tails and Luigi then jump out and tear them apart, and they calm down. Then Mario jumps forward and whips out a hammer, and cracks Sonic straight through a nearby building. Move the scene back to the car, with the family appalled, except for the father with a indifferent look on his face, who says a witty closing line of choice, an example, "Those two have always been competitive."

Too out there? Not funny enough? Too weird? I dunno. Probably better than the drivel we're going to get, but that doesn't say much.

You can count on me NOT watching that. The picture of it above just looks stupid. I don't think I'll be wasting my time.

Well, UPN has only bought SIX episodes, so don't plan on a long run regardless. And who knows? It might be great, but only air an episode or two because people don't "get" it. (Clerks toon, God the Devil and BOb, Invader Zim, etc.)

I'll tape every episode they air, even if it sucks, 'cause one day 10 years from now, folks'll be looking for these hard-to-find-aired-only-once eps. Hell, I wish I had kept all of the Pac-MAn 'toons I had taped back in the 80s. (Fortunately, I still have my Thundarr toons and Dungeons and Dragons toons )

And even though it wasn't animated, let's not forget Police Squad now.

Looks like you didn't have to...

    http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releasei...ReleaseID=4668

We should have known in this day and age of every TV show being put on DVD that Game Over wouldn't slip by. Hell, they put the Fox "The Tick" live action show on DVD and that was only 5 episodes. Of course "Game Over" will get a DVD.

I guess it's almost safe to say, if a show airs once, it will somehow come to DVD if only to make a quick buck from the small audience of fans.

Wow, talk about rise from your grave action.

    That show was awful, IMO.

May it rot in hell with The Mullets.

You know, even though by the time it came on I had a TiVo, I forgot to record it so I completely missed it.

I never had high hopes anyway.
