Nope. Not really. Buy a US version instead It was released by Working Designs in the US. There's a US one cheap here ($33):

That of course assumes you mean the one for Saturn.

It's not the worst RPG you could get (Chaos Seed would be) if you don't speak Japanese, but probably shouldn't bother since there is a US version... although it's much more expensive.

Totally different. The Saturn game is an action RPG, and a damn good one at that. It's also a 1st generation Saturn game if I'm not mistaken.

I was under the impression that it was released towards the end of the Saturn's lifecycle, but I could be horribly wrong.

    Yes, you are.

The JPN was the first import I bought, alone w/ my import cartridge, and I bought it a few months after the US saturn release. The US game was apparently finished a year or so later, but not relased until the Saturn was almost dead.

I'm somewhat loathe to really call the MKR game on the Saturn a "RPG" because it's so linear it hurts. I much prefer the translated SNES version but either one is a great pickup for a MKR fan.

the Saturn one, to be fair, is a pretty nice summation of the entire first season or Rayearth too.

But honestly, when did linear make something not an RPG? Most "RPGS" these days are horribly linear. FFX, the last new RPG I played was horrible in that respect.

In all honesty, the most non-linear I've played was Phanatsy Star in 1987. The only thing like it since then I've touched was Chrono Trigger.

The most non-linear game or series that comes to mind is Romancing Saga. Most of the Dragon Quest games are non-linear after a certain point. Gererally after you get your ship. Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2 are also kind of non-linear to a certain degree.

well, when I say linear, I mean there's no movement. You can't level up, there's no random battles, no overworld map... you only level up when certain events are reached. It frustrated me to no end.
