Default East Coast Gaming Expo - September 11th, 2004

    Hey everyone!

Wanted to let everyone know that ECGX is still happening.

We have now nailed down the date, location, and price structure for tickets and tables. Here's the run down:

    East Coast Gaming Expo
    Saturday, September 11th, 2004
    The Inn at Reading (http://www.innatreading.com)
    Reading, Pennsylvania

    Price for tickets: $0.00
    Price for tables: $0.00
    Price for pizza: $0.00
    Price for beer: $0.00
    Price for soda: $0.00

ECGX's first event is totally free! Come for a day full of video games and fun, on us!

A few tournaments and some door prizes will occur during the show, so be sure to bring your A game.

Tables are first come first served. We'll be taking table bookings and ticket "orders" on the website in the upcoming days. Keep an eye open at www.ecgx.com for when that will happen!

Wow - I have mixed reactions to this. That's some date on which to launch the event.

I wanted to attend the first iteration of the show, and depending on when Yom Kippur/Rosh Hashannah fall I'll be there. On the other hand, that's not the greatest date you could have picked, but you probably knew that already.

I'm assuming the Reading gave you guys a seriouos deal to hold an event that weekend.

Personally, I'm going to try and be there, and hopefully create some positive memories for the day.

That's what we were shooting for. People already have such bad memories of that day, we're trying to bring a little light back to September 11th.

Heh, I never made that connection before. 8*)

Sama is actually Japanese, it can mean various things. The itteration of it that I'm using means "person of higher being." So Intv = Intellivision, Sama = God Intellivision God. 8*)

While it's a 7 hour drive...just might have to look into going. The price is right for sure.

And I'll be damned if I'm going to waste a Saturday sitting at home being sad just because of the date...

Sounds wonderful! I can't imagine sitting around watching depressing news clips and reports again. Don't think I've ever been to Reading so it'll be a chance to exlpore some more of this beautiful state as well

Man, it's always so nice posting on Digital Press. I always get nice comments, people are enthused about the event, makes me glad I put on these shows.

    You were a PhillyClassic Flounder???

I thought PC was strictly Dave's gig. I suppose I must have met you then - I've been to every PC so far, and the first one was so small I assume I met everybody there.

Yep, David and myself ran the show the first year. Then David, Marc Pallante, Jeff Fowljewski (I probably spelled that wrong, Jeff is the man behind adventurevision.com), and myself organized PC2. I had began organizing PC3 but David, Marc, and I didn't see eye to eye on some aspects of the show so I had dropped out of the scene. I hold no grudges with them.

A lot of people were turned off by the stunt that PhillyClassic had pulled in the beginning of organizing this year's event (website "hacking", Game Jam, etc...), and overall weren't thrilled with PhillyClassic 4, so I set out to start up another show in the direction that PhillyClassic should have went in.

Adam Harvey (buyatari) and myself had originally slated ECGX to occur Feb 14th and 15th of this year, but we set our bar a little too high too soon. While we could have held the show on that date, we had very little planned in the extravagant events and guests section and we didn't expect a turnout to cover 75% of our cost, so we had to postpone.

We've restructured and have decided to do a more intimate one day gathering up here in Reading, PA. While we're still planning, we'd like to do a smaller free show up in Reading and one bigger show in Philly every year. (we had actually planned to do two small free shows this year, one in June and one in September, but the hotel couldn't offer us a Saturday in June) The big show won't occur tho' if we don't get a nice turn out at the free show. 8*) So make sure you support the event!

Also, I've thrown a couple of pics of myself up on my website. Check 'em out at http://toomanygames.com/images/chuck/1.jpg through 6.jpg

I think its great that you guys are having a smaller free show and I understand your reasoning, but I kinda feel bad about not having to pay anything. I'm sure you would get the same amount of people if you charged like $5 or something. Maybe you can have a donations area or something. I'm sure enough people would throw in a little money.

And I am also not so enthused about PC after what happened around here, but I still might check it out. Its great to know that there will be more than one option in this area. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to September.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

I too like the idea of kick-starting some new memories for that date. Whether or not I'll be able to make the cross-country trip is another thing entirely.

I know it is early, but, would anyone from the OH/MI area be interested in carpooling?

I know a few of us heading out from the Cleveland area where are you at? You might have to squeeze between the kegs of beer though.

Spoon would never have a problem squeezing between beer kegs. Hopefully they would still be full (with beer) when we arrived.

I am located in Toledo, right outside of Sylvania. I could drive my car down to meet you guys and leave my car parked for a few days.

Donation table sounds like a great idea, I know I'd be willing to kick up some loot.

If anyone from Western PA, WV, southeastern OH is lookin to carpool I'm up for it.

I want to sit in the car next to Antimind.

Sure, you'll have to drive way out of your way, pass up ECGE and then drive two hours in the opposite direction. But for once, just ONCE, think of ME.
